Volatility risk premia and financial connectedness

2014

In this paper we use the Diebold Yilmaz (2009 and 2012) methodology to construct an index of connectedness among five European stock markets: France, Germany, UK, Switzerland and the Netherlands, by using volatility risk premia. The volatility risk premium, which is a proxy of risk aversion, is measured by the difference between the implied volatility and expected realized volatility of the stock market for next month. While Diebold and Yilmaz focus is on the forecast error variance decomposition of stock returns or range based volatilities employing a stationary VAR in levels, we account for the (locally) long memory stationary properties of the levels of volatility risk premia series. The…

El cine, ¿puede hacernos peores? Stanley Cavell y el perfeccionismo moral

2016

Waste heat recovery from a marine waste incinerator using a thermoelectric generator

2012

Published version of an article published in the journal: Journal of Electronic Materials. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11664-012-2009-6 A marine waste incinerator has been evaluated for waste heat harvesting using thermoelectric generators (TEG). The application has been evaluated using mathematical modeling to optimize the heat exchanger and some vital design parameters of the TEG. The calculation shows that it is possible to extract 58 kW el at a price of 6.6 US$/W from an 850-kW th incinerator when optimizing for maximum power. However, minimizing the cost, it is possible to get 25 kW el at a price of 2.5 US$/W. A trade-off between the two targets lea…

Una metafísica del ser en cuanto creación. Juan David García Bacca lee a Alfred North Whitehead

2017

The role of the agreement as a tool for management of property relations in cases of cross border marriages and civil unions/partnerships registered …

2021

The essay examines the role of the agreement as a tool for managing property relationships in crossborder marriages and registered partnerships, in light of EU Regulations 1103 and 1104 of 2016, on the property regimes of international married or registered couples. The main prerogative of such acts is the recognition of the parties? freedom to choose the court and the applicable law. The law governing the matrimonial property regimes, or the property consequences of registered partnerships, has universal scope. This agreement in the form envisaged, which is backed by the need for legal certainty and predictability of the applicable rules, means that the spouses, in family problems which ha…

2013

One of the most recent debates among ethicists concerning the course of technological innovation is the human enhancement debate, which has been generated by the possibility of pushing human limits further by using the power of science. Many philosophers have warned us about the dangers of modifying human nature in a technical way. However, others argue that there are no morally salient differences between enhancing technical interventions and other kinds of technologies that human beings have taken to be usual for them. This paper shall critically analyze this argument. The main aim of this critical analysis is twofold, first, to show that people who make this argument are biased in severa…
