Influence of Iron Sulfide Nanoparticle Sizes in Solid‐State Batteries**

2021

Abstract Given the inherent performance limitations of intercalation‐based lithium‐ion batteries, solid‐state conversion batteries are promising systems for future energy storage. A high specific capacity and natural abundancy make iron disulfide (FeS2) a promising cathode‐active material. In this work, FeS2 nanoparticles were prepared solvothermally. By adjusting the synthesis conditions, samples with average particle diameters between 10 nm and 35 nm were synthesized. The electrochemical performance was evaluated in solid‐state cells with a Li‐argyrodite solid electrolyte. While the reduction of FeS2 was found to be irreversible in the initial discharge, a stable cycling of the reduced sp…

Neutron tomography of ancient lead artefacts

2014

This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively. The investigations presented here show the results of an epigraphic analysis on ancient Roman lead ingots rescued from shipwrecks along the coast of Sicily (Italy) by means of Neutron Tomography (NT). The artefacts, including a lead horn, can be dated back to a period between the 3rd and 1st century BC. The three dimensional NT reconstructions helped the decipherment of hidden s…

Velázquez en el entorno de Pacheco: las primeras obras

1991

A PESAR DE LA ABUNDANTE BIBLIOGRAFIA SOBRE VELAZQUEZ, LAS OBRAS DE SU PRIMER PERIODO HAN SIDO POCO ESTUDIADAS. EN ESTA ETAPA VELAZQUEÑA ES MUY IMPORTANTE LA INFLUENCIA DE SU SUEGRO FRANCISCO PACHECO. TENIENDO EN CUENTA EL AMBIENTE CULTURAL Y RELIGIOSO EN QUE SE PRODUJERON OBRAS COMO "VIEJA FRIENDO HUEVOS" O "CRISTO EN CASA DE MARTA Y MARIA" PUEDEN INTERPRETARSE RESPECTIVAMENTE COMO UNA ALEGORIA DEL MATRIMONIO Y COMO UNA ALUSION A LA VIRGEN MARIA COMO MODELO DE VIDA ACTIVA Y CONTEMPLATIVA. ESTAS INTERPRETACIONES TIENEN EN CUENTA FUNDAMENTALMENTE LAS FUENTES LITERARIAS MANEJADAS POR EL SUEGRO DEL PINTOR, FRANCISCO PACHECO, QUE VELAZQUEZ MUY PROBABLEMENTE CONOCIERA. (A.B.C./ L.A.G.)

Yeast Life Span and its Impact on Food Fermentations

2019

Yeasts are very important microorganisms for food production. The high fermentative capacity, mainly of the species of the genus Saccharomyces, is a key factor for their biotechnological use, particularly to produce alcoholic beverages. As viability and vitality are essential to ensure their correct performance in industry, this review addresses the main aspects related to the cellular aging of these fungi as their senescence impacts their proper functioning. Laboratory strains of S. cerevisiae have proven a very successful model for elucidating the molecular mechanisms that control life span. Those mechanisms are shared by all eukaryotic cells. S. cerevisiae has two models of aging, replic…

Protonenvermittelter Ringschluss eines negativ photochromen, Azulen‐basierten Diarylethens

2020

Enological Repercussions of Non-Saccharomyces Species

2019

The bulk of the sugar fermentation in grape juice, in order to produce wine is carried out by yeasts of the genus Saccharomyces, mainly S. cerevisiae. However, S. cerevisiae is not the only wine yeast, as spontaneous grape juice fermentation involves a complex succession of growth and death of different yeasts [1,2], and each of them contribute to the organoleptic properties of the final product. Saccharomyces are not usually found in the epiphytic yeasts present on the surface of grapes, where Hanseniaspora, Candida, Pichia, and Hansenula are dominant [3]. However, Saccharomyces imposes itself due to its higher tolerance to the stressful conditions of fermentation, due to its resistance to…
