The xenobiotic priority pollutant pentachlorophenol has been used as a timber preservative in a polychlorophenol bulk synthesis product containing also tetrachlorophenol and trichlorophenol. Highly soluble chlorophenol salts have leaked into groundwater, causing severe contamination of large aquifers. Succinate, an intermediate of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, is accumulated in inflamed areas and its signaling through succinate receptor (SUCNR1) regulates immune function. We analyze SUCNR1 expression in the intestine of Crohn's disease patients and its role in murine intestinal inflammation and fibrosis. We show that both serum and intestinal succinate levels and SUCNR1 expression in intestinal surgical resections were higher in CD patients than in controls. SUCNR1 co-localized with CD86, CD206, and alpha-SMA(+) cells in human intestine and we found a positive and significant correlation between SUCNR1 and alpha-SMA expression. Abstract Background Patients with postthrombotic syndrome (PTS) treated with stents are at risk of stent thrombosis (ST). The incidence of ST in the presence and absence of anticoagulation therapy (AT) is unknown. Risk factors are not well understood. Patients and Methods From the prospective Swiss Venous Stent registry, we conducted a subgroup analysis of 136 consecutive patients with PTS. Incidence of ST was estimated from duplex ultrasound or venography, and reported for the time on and off AT. The use of in situ techniques in soil remediation is still rare in Finland and most other European countries due to the uncertainty of the effectiveness of the techniques especially in cold regions and also due to their potential side effects on the environment. In this study, we compared the biostimulation, chemical oxidation, and natural attenuation treatments in natural conditions and pilot scale during a 16-month experiment. A real fuel spill accident was used as a model for experiment setup and soil contamination. Aberrant splicing of the tumor suppressor CYLD promotes the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia via sustained NF-κB signaling

The pathogenesis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) has been linked to constitutive NF-κB activation but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Here we show that alternative splicing of the negative regulator of NF-κB and tumor suppressor gene CYLD regulates the pool of CD5+ B cells through sustained canonical NF-κB signaling. Reinforced canonical NF-κB activity leads to the development of B1 cell-associated tumor formation in aging mice by promoting survival and proliferation of CD5+ B cells, highly reminiscent of human B-CLL.
