Families of solutions to the KPI equation and the structure of their rational representations of order N

2018

We construct solutions to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation (KPI) in terms of Fredholm determinants. We deduce solutions written as a quotient of wronskians of order 2N. These solutions called solutions of order N depend on 2N − 1 parameters. They can also be written as a quotient of two polynomials of degree 2N (N + 1) in x, y and t depending on 2N − 2 parameters. The maximum of the modulus of these solutions at order N is equal to 2(2N + 1) 2. We explicitly construct the expressions until the order 6 and we study the patterns of their modulus in the plane (x, y) and their evolution according to time and parameters.

2014

Masteroppgave i spesialsykepleie – Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: To ensure competence it is important to use good sources of knowledge and learning tools that provide good learning outcome. E-learning is considered to be the future focus to ensure a common updated competence. Purpose: Purpose of this study was to illuminate what influences the use of e-learning as a learning tool among nurse anesthetists. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using a questionnaire based on the technology acceptance model (TAM). Based on previous theory and research, we added organizational factors to TAM. We performed a cross-sectional study among 369 nurse anesthetists in helse sør-øst. 11…

Intrinsic Lipschitz Graphs and Vertical β-Numbers in the Heisenberg Group

2016

The purpose of this paper is to introduce and study some basic concepts of quantitative rectifiability in the first Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}$. In particular, we aim to demonstrate that new phenomena arise compared to the Euclidean theory, founded by G. David and S. Semmes in the 90's. The theory in $\mathbb{H}$ has an apparent connection to certain nonlinear PDEs, which do not play a role with similar questions in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. Our main object of study are the intrinsic Lipschitz graphs in $\mathbb{H}$, introduced by B. Franchi, R. Serapioni and F. Serra Cassano in 2006. We claim that these $3$-dimensional sets in $\mathbb{H}$, if any, deserve to be called quantitatively $3$-rectifi…

Performance of the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC

2014

ALICE is the heavy-ion experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The experiment continuously took data during the first physics campaign of the machine from fall 2009 until early 2013, using proton and lead-ion beams. In this paper we describe the running environment and the data handling procedures, and discuss the performance of the ALICE detectors and analysis methods for various physics observables.

Enabling Energy Savings in Offshore Mechatronic Systems by using Self-Contained Cylinders

2019

This paper proposes a novel actuation system for an offshore drilling application. It consists of three self-contained electro-hydraulic cylinders that can share and store regenerated energy. The energy saving potential of the proposed solution is analyzed through a multibody system simulation. The self-contained system demonstrates superior energy efficiency compared to the benchmark system representing the state-of-the-art approach used today (i.e., valve-controlled cylinders by means of pressure-compensated directional control valves and counter-balance valves, supplied by a centralized hydraulic power unit). Due to the power on demand capability, the cancellation of the throttling losse…
