Thermally Induced Isomerization of Trilinolein and Trilinoelaidin at 250 A degrees C: Analysis of Products by Gas Chromatography and Infrared Spectro…

2009

Accepted version of an article published in the journal: Lipids The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com, http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11745-009-3363-x The products formed by thermally induced isomerization of trilinolein and trilinoelaidin at 250 A degrees C were studied by infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography. The triglycerides of the 9c12c and 9t12t fatty acids, linoleic and linoelaidic acid respectively, were subjected to thermal treatment under nitrogen in glass. The products were removed at regular intervals and analysed by infrared spectroscopy using a single reflectance attenuated total internal reflectance crystal accessory. Trans-esterification of the pr…

Thermal Induction of 9t12t Linoleic Acid: a New Pathway for the Formation of Conjugated Linoleic Acids

2009

Accepted version of an article published in the journal: International Journal of Engineering and Technology Published version available at: http://www.ijetch.org/papers/066.pdf Thermal induction of 9t12t fatty acid leading to the formation of Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA) has been demonstrated by subjecting glyceride, and methyl ester of the acid to heat treatment. Fifteen micro liter portions of the glyceride sample containing 9t12t fatty acid (trilinoelaidin) were placed in micro glass ampoules and sealed under nitrogen and then subjected to thermal treatment at 250oC. The glass ampoules were taken out at regular time intervals, and the contents were subjected to composition analysis b…

ean-Square Filtering for Polynomial System States Confused with Poisson Noises over Polynomial Observations

2011

Published version of an article in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2011.2.1 In this paper, the mean-square filtering problem for polynomial system states confused with white Poisson noises over polynomial observations is studied proceeding from the general expression for the stochastic Ito differentials of the mean-square estimate and the error variance. In contrast to the previously obtained results, the paper deals with the general case of nonlinear polynomial states and observations with white Poisson noises. As a result, the Ito differentials for the mean-square estimate and error variance corre- spon…

Modeling and Performance Analysis of Energy Efficiency Binary Power Control in MIMO-OFDM Wireless Communication Systems

2011

Published version of an article in the journal:International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks. Also available from Hindawi Publishing: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2011/946258 The energy efficiency optimization of the binary power control scheme for MIMO-OFDM wireless communication systems is formulated, and then a global optimization solution of power allocation is derived. Furthermore, a new energy efficiency binary power control (EEBPC) algorithm is designed to improve the energy efficiency of MIMO-OFDM wireless communication systems. Simulation results show that the EEBPC algorithm has better energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency than the average power control algorithm in MIMO-O…

Semi-decentralized strategies in structural vibration control

2011

Published version of an article published in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2011.2.2 In this work, the main ideas involved in the design of overlapping and multi-overlapping controllers via the Inclusion Principle are discussed and illustrated in the context of the Structural Vibration Control of tall buildings under seismic excitation. A detailed theoretical background on the Inclusion Principle and the design of overlapping controllers is provided. Overlapping and multi-overlapping LQR controllers are designed for a simplied five-story building model. Numerical simulations are conducted to asses the pe…

Postmenopausal women with osteopenia and a healed wrist fracture have reduced physical function and quality of life compared to a matched, healthy co…

2014

Published version of an article from the journal: BMC Women's Health. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1472-6874-14-92 Background: Fractures lead to reduced physical function and quality of life (QOL), but little is known about postmenopausal women with osteopenia and a healed wrist fracture. The purpose was to evaluate physical function in terms of quadriceps strength, dynamic balance, physical capacity and QOL in postmenopausal women with osteopenia and a healed wrist fracture compared to a matched, healthy control group with no previous fracture. Methods: Eighteen postmenopausal women with osteopenia (patients) (mean age 59.1 years, range 54 – 65) and a healed…

Future sport, exercise and physical education professionals' perceptions of the physical self of obese children

2010

Published version of an article from the journal:International Journal of Fundamental and Applied Kinesiology. Also available from the publisher:http://hrcak.srce.hr/index.php?show=clanak&id_clanak_jezik=82637 Anti-fat bias has been previously identified amongst practising obesity health care specialists, physical education (PE) teachers and students of exercise science and PE in samples in the USA and New Zealand. The present research investigated the perceptions of the physical self of 'fat' versus 'normal-weight' children held by 167 students studying sport exercise and PE related programmes in higher education in England. Onesample t-tests identified that the sample held negative percep…

Antiretroviral treatment reverses HIV-associated anemia in rural Tanzania

2011

Published version of an article from the journal: BMC Infectious Diseases. Also available from the publisher: hhtp://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1471-2334-11-190 . Open Access BACKGROUND:HIV-associated anemia is common and associated with poor prognosis. However, its response to antiretroviral treatment (ART) in rural Africa is poorly understood.METHODS:HIV-infected adults ([greater than or equal to]15 years) who enrolled in HIV care at Haydom Lutheran Hospital in northern Tanzania were included in the study. The effect of ART (zidovudine/stavudine + lamivudine + efavirenz/nevirapine) on HIV-associated anemia was studied in a subset of patients who were anemic at the time they started ART and had a …

Parents and nurses in a neonatal intensive care unit: the development of a mutual beneficial partnership in the care of the infant

2009

Ph.D.

Professional thinking in Individual Plan processes

2014

This article explores the kind of critical and reflective thinking taht influences the social and health care professionals in the Individual Plan process. An inter-professional group of six healthcare and social researchers collected the data, which consisted of indepth interviews with 12 service providers who were the clients´ coordinators and one day centre leader. By focusing on reflective thinking in a critical perspective, it is concluded that coordinators are guided by different philosophical and theoretical perspectives in this process; a mixture of reasoning strategies, caring as a relational concept and a mixture of philosophical frameworks. To improve critical thinking in Individ…
