Basque pilota is a traditional sport played mainly by men. A project emerged in 2005 to promote female participation: Emakumea Pilotari (Woman pelota player). In this article we present the main points that emerged from an ethnographic study of the social relationships that playing Basque pilota can provide. The study was carried out in 2011-2012 season with a purposive sample of 28 adult women Basque pilota players (pilotaris) (between 22 and 60 years old). 26 participants were pilotaris in recreational groups and the other two were their trainers. The XENON1T Dark Matter Experiment

The XENON1T experiment at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) is the first WIMP dark matter detector operating with a liquid xenon target mass above the ton-scale. Out of its 3.2 t liquid xenon inventory, 2.0 t constitute the active target of the dual-phase time projection chamber. The scintillation and ionization signals from particle interactions are detected with low-background photomultipliers. This article describes the XENON1T instrument and its subsystems as well as strategies to achieve an unprecedented low background level. First results on the detector response and the performance of the subsystems are also presented. © 2017, The Author(s).

<p style="text-align: justify;">L'effet colloïde-protecteur d'extraits mannoprotéiques de parois de levures vis-à-vis de la précipitation tartrique a été étudié en solution hydroalcoolique, en utilisant un IST mètre (Indice de Stabilité Tartrique).</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Nous avons montré que les deux extraits levuriens inhibaient la cristallisation du bitartrate de potassium au même titre que l'acide métatartrique et la carboxyméthylcellulose, mais à un niveau plus faible. The evaluation of soccer players’ physical fitness from youth onward is important for monitoring performance and planning training. While health-related factors present valid and reliable tests, the skill-related component should be studied in depth. The importance of phytoplankton production for carbon budgets in a semiarid floodplain wetland

Phytoplankton production (PP) in wetlands is not measured as often as that of macrophytes. A three year-study during a period of sustained high flooding was undertaken in a central Spanish floodplain wetland (Las Tablas de Daimiel National Park) to determine net PP, its spatial heterogeneity and controlling factors, and compare it with primary production in macrophyte communities. This enabled us to estimate carbon budgets for each community. All PP variables showed high spatial and temporal variability among sites, resulting in low coherence even when flooding connected all sites. Zvaigznes HD179821 evolūcijas stadijas precizēšana izmantojot augstas izšķirtspējas spektroskopijas metodes

Šajā darbā tiek veikta zvaigznes HD179821 augstas izšķirtspējas spektra analīze, kurš iegūts Terskolas observatorijā viļņu garuma diapazonā no 3100 līdz 6400Å. Darbā tika veikta spektra redukcija, līniju identificēšana, noteikta radiālā ātruma vērtība Vr=123,7±1,6 (km/s), izmērīti līniju ekvivalentie platumi un, izmantojot atmosfēru modeļu metodi, tika precizēti atmosfēras parametri – Teff = 6750±250 K, log(g) = 0-0,5±0,5 (cgs), ξ=6,5±1 km/s, iegūta dzelzs koncentrācija [Fe] = -0,17±0,11 dex un itrija [Y] = 0,35±0,29 dex koncentrācija attiecībā pret Saules vērtību. Iegūtie rezultāti salīdzināti ar citu autoru iegūtajiem datiem, lai precizētu evolūcijas stadiju, kādā atrodas pētāmā zvaigzne.…
