Composite material recycling technology—state-of-the-art and sustainable development for the 2020s

Recently, significant events took place that added immensely to the sociotechnical pressure for developing sustainable composite recycling solutions, namely (1) a ban on composite landfilling in Germany in 2009, (2) the first major wave of composite wind turbines reaching their End-of-Life (EoL) and being decommissioned in 2019–2020, (3) the acceleration of aircraft decommissioning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and (4) the increase of composites in mass production cars, thanks to the development of high volume technologies based on thermoplastic composites. This book of abstracts is made for the Laser Centre section "Atomic, molecular and optical physics section", that occurred as a part of the 81st International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia. This section was organized by the staff of Laser Centre of the University of Latvia and was held on the 31st of January, 2023. The book of abstracts contains contributions from researchers working on various light-matter interaction problems from all four laboratories of the Laser Center - Atomic and Molecular Physics Laboratory, Molecule Optical Polarization Laboratory, Color centre laboratory and Laboratory of Astrospectroscopy.

Latviešu astronoms Kārlis Šteins (1911 – 1983) pētīja komētu orbītu difūziju – mazu izmaiņu uzkrāšanos orbītas parametra – lielās pusass apgrieztajās vērtībās. Kopā ar līdzstrādniekiem viņš modelēja daudzu komētu orbītas un noteica, kā Jupitera gravitācijas spēks ietekmē lielo pusasu apgrieztos lielumus un vēl vienu orbītas parametru – perihēlija attālumu. Viņi ieguva un atrisināja diferenciālvienādojumu, kas apraksta komētu difūziju. Pētījumos K. Šteins atklāja jaunas orbītu parametru statistiskās sakarības, kas literatūrā pazīstamas kā komētu difūzijas likumi un reizēm tiek sauktas viņa vārdā.
