Sobre el valencià «gemecar» 'gemegar'
2002
This paper focuses excusively on Valencian gemecar ‘gemegar’, “to whine”. It asserts that it is a generalized form in Valencian areas, where it can be found as early as the 15th century. On the one hand, it refutes the hypothesis that the word should be a back-formation from gemec, and on the other, that it should be linked to Mozarabic. The author shows the continuity with Aragonese gemecar, and underlines that Aragonese keeps intervocalic voiceless consonants, that gemecar can be found in Aragonese documents since the 14th century, and that it has expanded into neighbouring varieties, related to Aragonese (Murcian and Eastern Andalusian). Finally, the paper justifies the acceptance of the…
Aportació a l'estudi de la conjunció concessiva «jatsia»
2007
Concessive connectors are the focal point of grammaticalization processes, based on several types of lexical sources. In Catalan, «jatsia» (that) is the result of a grammaticalization process based on an aspectual temporary adverb (or phase adverb), which is comparable to the process that produced «encara que». The case of «encara que» has already been studied specifically by Pérez Saldanya & Salvador (1995), while Klesper (1930), Badia (1982) and Cuenca & Massip (2005) have focused on «jatsia» (that). The interest of the study of these processes is increased in the case of «jatsia»(that) by the polymorphism it shows and by the displacement it has experimented in its use, since it has gone …
L'anàlisi de textos teatrals per a infants i adolescents
2009
Aquest article aborda l’anàlisi del teatre per a infants i adolescents aplicat a textos dramàtics editats. El plantejament d’anàlisi presentat té com punt de partida bàsic la consideració del teatre com una interacció escènica, amb la voluntat de desenvolupar un tipus d’anàlisi que done compte del model de construcció escènica i, fins i tot, d’una concepció de l’acte teatral destinat a infants i a adolescents.
L'estil nominalitzat
2000
This paper deals with the subject of nominal(ized) style in contrast with clausal style. Expressing processes and qualities as entities involves a certain kind of metaphor –a grammatical metaphor, in the sense systemic functional linguistic conceives it. Furthermore this device is useful to improve the development of the thematic progression of a text. Nominalized style is characteristic of scientific academic discourse, but it widely spreads along other types of discourse, implying sometimes an effect of abstraction and opacity unsuitable for other discursive purposes and specially for literary genres.

1995
Catalan costumisme (literary genre of local customs and manners) is an attempt, historically delimited, to understand life and its agents from ancient, archetypal patterns. Phraseology and metaphors exemplify the literary manisfestations of costumisme. In this framework, novels by Rusiñol and Vayreda are studied.

Sobre el concepte de derivació fonològica: alguns fenòmens vocàlics en basc i en català
1995
In the standard generative model, phonological rules are strictly ordered, potentially giving rise to complicated derivations with a large number of intermediate representations. In such a model, the order in which the rules apply is as important as the correct formulation of the rules. There are obvious conceptual problems with this theoretical framework, and in recent years several proposals which do away with rule ordering have been put forward. In this paper, we examine a number of vocalic alternations in Basque and Valencian (Southern Catalan), which in a standard generative analysis require a complex rule ordering. Adapting Lakoff' s model we show that, in every case, we can have a si…
La variació sintàctica: uniformitat en la diversitat
2021
The study of the syntactic variation of the dialects of a language is a good instrument to understand the general properties of language and the syntactic principles that govern the limits of variation in sentence structure. This paper deals with two topics of Catalan sintax, which are given different solutions by the speakers depending on the dialects. One of them is at the interface between syntax and morphology; the other, at the interface between syntax and semantics. The both are related to agreement: morphological features agreement and lexical features agreement. Specifically, we will analise number agreement in deontic sentences with the verb caldre from dialects where this verb is …
