Simulation of propositional content does not sufficiently explain real-life linguistic activity, even for action-related language. In addition, how we get from propositional content to implicit and inferential meaning needs to be explained. Indeed, simulative understanding is immediate, automatic and reflex-like while an explicit interpretative act, even if not always needed, is still a part of many linguistic activities. The relationship between literature and reality in the Middle Ages can be considered from several dimensions. One of the most important cultural elements of the medieval period is the visual representation of reality found it literary texts, not only through the presence of miniatures in the manuscripts, but especially through the description of realia in the same text. The encyclopedic tradition helps to intertwine this close relationship between the outer representativeness and the inwardness of the text, a new interpretation of the Horacian’s ut pictura poiesis. This work approaches the study of the relationship between the figure of the translator and that of the writer in the framework of translating activities related to the Catalan language. In the person of Joan Fuster both sides are combined: he is an author translated into other languages, such as Spanish, English or Italian and he is, at the same time, a translator himself of European literary works, especially of Ignazio Silone and particularly Albert Camus.
