The article deals with the different kinds of speakers that emerge when language transmission failure arises between consecutive generations. The case is exemplified through the speech community of the city of Alacant, where we can distinguish four kinds of speakers, from the ones who know very well the local variety of Catalan to the ones who only understand this variety and whose first language is Spanish. In between we have the main concern of our study, the precarious speakers, distributed in two categories according to their skill in the use of Catalan, which has become their second language.

In an educational system like ours, with four curricular languages in compulsory education, language integrated treatment and its contents (TILC) has to become, undoubtedly, a privileged instrument for multilingual education, because it allows to fulfil two goals at the same time: to acquire contents of different academic disciplines and to simultaneously provide competences in the language or languages with which these contents are developed. En este artículo abordamos el análisis de la evolución reciente del gallego en el ámbito familiar. En concreto, nos interesan los procesos de producción, reproducción y no reproducción de la lengua y sus consecuencias en la actual situación de substitución lingüística. En el periodo que va desde 1992 a 2008, la distribución de la lengua inicial se ha visto sensiblemente modificada, sobre todo por la penetración del español en la mayor parte de las familias. L’article vol ser una primera aproximació als usos actuals de la partícula catalana idò. Àmpliament utilitzada en la parla col·loquial i espontània de les Illes Balears, la partícula parteix d’usos comuns amb el seu originari doncs (fr. donc, it. dunque), però ha anat prenent altres valors, tot i mantenir una notable simetria. Al costat de valors consecutius i de marcador discursiu pot funcionar com a element interrogatiu i interjecció. Com sovint s’esdevé amb certes partícules, idò pren valors lligats a l’entonació, que permetrà destriar retolacions i significats.

The last ten years have witnessed a growing interest in the acquisition of third languages (L3s). Due to their sociolinguistic characteristics, Catalonia and the Basque Country are at the forefront in production of published empirical research in L3 acquisition. This article provides a review of research in L3 acquisition and argues that this research is worthwhile for practical and theoretical reasons. L3 acquisition studies can inform decisions regarding appropriate timing and procedures to incorporate foreign languages (L3s) in the bilingual curriculum, and they can shed light on important theoretical issues, such as the role of experience in language processing and the role of transfer …
Lexicografia i correcció: la funció dels diccionaris en la revisió de textos

The aim of this paper is an attempt to revise the role of dictionaries in professional text supervising processes. Under the frame of text linguistics, we first explain how correction tasks are conditioned by text typology. Next, we study the macro structure of dictionaries (in order to consider what kind of lexicographical works are closer to the corrector needs) and then we study their micro structure (in order to set up what kind of information might be relevant for correction tasks). In conclusion, we finally State some lacks of current dictionaries for correction purposes, and we settle some aspects of text revision which are not expected to be solved with dictionary consultation.
Les glosses de Guillem Nicolau a la seva traducció de les 'Heroides' d'Ovidi (1390) : una proposta d'identificació

According to a letter written in 1390, Guillem Nicolau attached a full commentary to his Catalan translation of Ovid’s Heroides. Although these glosses have not survived in any of the extant manuscripts of this translation, they have been preserved in a fifteenth-century manuscript containing an anonymous Castilian version of the Catalan text. In this article, the linguistic- and literary-based identification of these Castilian glosses with those written by Nicolau leads to a further examination of the relationship of the Catalan Heroides to the Latin commentary tradition.
