Per a la data de l'apitxat
1999
This essay's contribution consists of new 15th and 16th century documentary witnesses, ateested by scholars, which show readings with ch spelling instead of other spellings representing the voiced palato-alveolar affricate. The author maintains that these cases, although exceptional in contemporary texts, constitute «crevices in the old edifice of written language» and would confirm the hypothesis that apitxament, the voiceless production of the above-mentioned sound, originated in 15th century Valencia, as opposed to those dating this phenomenon well into the modern period.
2002
This paper shows, based on historical data, how in the Middle Ages, in spite of the Castilian influence which can be seen in documents, Aragonese speakers had an awareness of the difference between their language and Spanish.
2005
Taking as a point of departure the classification of modern Spanish quantifiers, the paper opens with a brief description of the inventory of these items in medieval language and the basic traits of their syntactic evolution. The same discussion is made for equivalents words in modern and medieval Catalan in order to establish a picture of the significant evolutionary differences between both languages. Finally, for the sake of a future historical syntax of Catalan, we offer a little catalogue of research proposals on this area of Catalan quantifiers.
1995
This article intends to demonstrate that the final form of the clusters /ts/ and /dz/ in the Valencian dialect depends upon the behaviour of a series of universal principles referring to the syllabic structure. The author assumes that such restrictions are ranked on a language particular basis, according to the postulates of Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolensky 1993). Then, the outputs for the alveolar clusters will be the result of applying the constraint hierarchy to the set of possible candidates consistent with every input. The different results of the clusters /ts/ and /dz/ in Valencian, and this dialect' s divergences from other Catalan varieties are explained by the differences …
Immersió lingüística a Catalunya, identitat i imatge
1996
The authors analyze the question of whether there is a mimetic correlation between the conservation of Catalan and the maintenance of a cultural and national identity. They study the self-inclusion, if any, of youths between six and fifteen years of age in national groups -Catalan or Spanish- according to the language spoken at home and at school, together with the images and feelings they construe in relation to other European national groups.
1998
Several attempts to describe and explain lexical regularities and irregulaties have been made in morphology and semantics. Dialectology and historical grammar have studied phenomena of lexical alternation and change. Yet, applied linguistics has not shown the intrinsic variation of lexic even though there have been, and are, many pedagogical, computer, and lexicographic reasons to describe this complexity. Studies focusing on this issue of variation are relatively recent. There is no grammatical model to thoroughly explain communicative competence available at this point in time. And the incorporation of lexical variation in some theoretical models is still very limited. This paper aims at …
1999
Reflections on the conditions, contents and methodology of the social history of Catalan, reflections which deal with the 19th and 20th centuries, but go beyond these periods. From a perspective close to that of the sociology of knowledge, the author points out the limitations that threaten the status of this discipline. He points out some problems both in method and exegesis, such as access to data, reliability of these data, interdisciplinary collaboration, the conceptual scope of linguistic change, the distinction between facts and interpretations, and periodization.
2002
The author shows how cereal imports from southern Aragon into the Valencian kingdom encouraged contact between medieval Valencians and Aragon. Through the documents collected, we can observe the links between southern Aragon and Valencia, discover the specific geographics of such contacts, and see how the arrival of imported products opened the path for the penetration of Aragonese linguistic material. The paper also offers a number of Aragonese toponyms adapted into Catalan, drawn from the documents presented.
