The Nova Cançó has not only been an important linguistic and civil phenomenon in Catalan life in the latest decades. It has also been a literary phenomenon that deserves to be analysed, taking into account both the lyrics of the important authors and the great variety and quantity of poems that, with music, became songs. The article studies this artistic production.

Complete and detailed description of all the currently known copies of the edition of Ausiàs March’s poetry published by Baltasar de Romaní (València 1539). The author considers as stimulating the hypothesis explaining the edition as an initiative by Ferdinand of Aragon to introduce March and his verse into Castilian Spanish, which would explain why Romaní made a selection of text in Catalan with the corresponding Spanish translation.

This article analyzes the structures of «ésser» + participle in old Catalan. It highlights the diversity of constructions that may constitute this hind of construction (compound tenses, copulatives and passives). It analyzes the methodological problems derived from structural ambiguity, and points explains the evolutionary ways that language has established to solve the problems generated by formal syncretism.

Studies on the prepositional category generally cover its syntactic and semantic aspects. Phonological aspects are usually reflected in a peripheral way. In this article we propose to study some of the phonic features of Catalan prepositions from the point of view of Cognitive Grammar, and try to establish to what extent these are exclusively phonological facts. Specifically, we shall study the atonicity of the most prototypical prepositions, the exceptional accentuation of prepositions, the so-called contractions of prepositions and articles, and the a/e and a/ad alternations in Northern Catalan and colloquial Valencian, respectively.

An important series of verbs of the second conjugation exists in Catalan, characterized by a velar obstruent between the radical and the inflectional affixes. This velar segment, which in modern Catalan acts as an extension of the radical, has a heterogeneous historical origin. A review of the various sub-dialect classifications of Catalan in the north of the Pais Valencià, together with a proposal distinguishing northern Valencian, with two subdialects, and southern Tortosí in the eastern border with Catalonia, provide an introduction to an elaborate summary of the main dialectal research on the area.
