THE LATVIAN LANGUAGE IN THE LINGUISTIC LANDSCAPE OF DAUGAVPILS (THE MIDDLE OF THE 19TH CENTURY - TODAY)

2020

This paper will focus on the LL of Daugavpils from a diachronic point of view in order to describe the usage of the Latvian language in the public space since the middle of the 19th century until today, as well as the socio-economic and political factors which influence the language situation. Research sources are old photos which depict legible signboards, and photos obtained during LL research 2013.
The role of the Latvian language in public information increased during the first period of independence, when ideas of nationalism become widespread and the first normative documents about language usage were approved. However, the stability of Latvian as the main language of the public…

2015

In this article Casanova uses various archives –in particular that of Emili Beüt i Belenguer– to reconstruct the process of elaborating the general dictionary of Valencian. This dictionary was written during the Spanish civil war through the IEV, an organization in which Salvador played a decisive role. The author presents several dictionary entries and compares them with others from Pompeu Fabra's DGLC, and with other works.

2014

This article has as its goal to analyze the dramatic text «Elsa Schneider» (1987), by Sergi Belbel, starting from the concept of irony of contrast between text and context of communication. This ironic resource is conveyed through the different composition of the three sequences of monologues in which the work is structured. With this resource the author offers an approach to a metadiscursive subject matter which revolves around scenic communication and theatrical genres.

Metaficció irònica a «Estremida memòria», de Jesús Moncada

2006

The reception of Jesús Moncada’s work at the beginning of his literary career was determined by the debate between «rural novel» and «urban novel», up to the point of directing its reading towards an elegiac dimension, at the expense of other distinctive traits of greater importance. In this sense, Moncada’s work has been understood, in an almost exclusive way, as a literary recording of the collective memory. The present article suggests a different reading of «Estremida memòria», in order to discover the essenciality of the irony in the author’s world, in this case, through the characteristic procedures of metafiction: metalepsi and metatextuality. The recreation of Mequinenza’s history i…
