Protonation of Carbonate in Aqueous Tetraalkylammonium Salts at 25°C.

Protonation constants of carbonate were determined in tetramethylammonium chloride (Me4NClaq 0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤4) and tetraethylammonium iodide (Et4NIaq 0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤1) by potentiometric ([H+]-glass electrode) measurements. Dependence of protonation constants on ionic strength was taken into account by modified specific ion interaction theory (SIT) and by Pitzer models. Literature data on the protonation of carbonate in NaClaq (0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤6) were also critically analysed. Both protonation constants of carbonate follow the trend Et4NI>Me4NCl > NaCl. Evaluation of biosorbents for Cu removal from wastewater in the presence of EDTA

BACKGROUND: This paper evaluates the use of several biosorbents for Cu removal from aqueous solutions in the absence and presence of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The objective was to determine the applicability of the sorption process after conventional physicochemical wastewater treatment, or as primary treatment, replacing the physicochemical process. RESULTS: Fixed-bed experiments were performed at Cu influent concentrations of 2 and 20 mg dm−3 and EDTA doses between 0 and 10 mg dm−3. Koulutusosaamisen viennistä tulee kehittää yksi Suomen tulevaisuuden tärkeimmistä vientituotteista. Näin kaavailtiin vuonna 2010 julkaistussa opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriön raportissa (OKM 2010). Suomessa ajatus koulutuksesta vientituotteena on suhteellisen tuore käsite ja kattaa laajan skaalan erilaisia koulutusosaamisen viennin muotoja. Monissa muissa maissa, etenkin Australiassa, Isossa-Britanniassa sekä Yhdysvalloissa, koulutuksella on tehty kauppaa yli rajojen jo vuosikymmeniä. Abstract During the last twelve years the ELSA Project (Eifel Laminated Sediment Archive) at Mainz University has drilled a total of about 52 cores from 27 maar lakes and filled-in maar basins in the Eifel/Germany. Dating has been completed for the Holocene cores using 6 different methods (210Pb and 137Cs activities, palynostratigraphy, event markers, varve counting, 14C). In general, the different methods consistently complement one another within error margins. Event correlation was used for relating typical lithological changes with historically known events such as the two major Holocene flood events at 1342 AD and ca 800 BC. The lacustrine record of Oberwinkler Maar (Eifel, Germany) is the northernmost continuous record documenting the Weichselian Pleniglacial in central Europe - a period characterized by multiple abrupt climate oscillations known as the Dansgaard/Oeschger cycles. Here, the results of a high-resolution study of chironomid remains are presented, with a focus on the earlier part of Oxygen Isotope Stage (OIS) 3 (60-50 kyr BP) covering four stadial/interstadial cycles. During the stadials, the chironomid fauna of the former lake was dominated by many coldstenothermic chironomid taxa, indicating a cold, oligotrophic lake.
