To localize interstitial telomeric sequences (ITSs) and to test whether their pattern of distribution could be linked to chromosomal evolution, we hybridized telomeric sequence probes (peptide nucleic acid, PNA) on metaphases of New World monkeys: Callithrix argentata, Callithrix jacchus, Cebuella pygmaea, Saguinus oedipus, Saimiri sciureus, Aotus lemurinus griseimembra, Aotus nancymaae (Cebidae), Lagothrix lagotricha (Atelidae) and Callicebus moloch (Pithecidae), characterized by a rapid radiation and a high rate of chromosomal rearrangements. The article examines the challenges to self-organisation and upscaling of alternative economies from the viewpoint of defending and negotiating social space. Timebanks in Finland and the UK are presented as examples, analysing the difference of defending such social space in the contexts of a traditional welfare state (in the case of Finland) and an austerity-driven government with a “Big Society” ideology (in the case of UK). This article deals with non-profit sector and voluntary workers’ understandings of the benefits of young people’s participation in cultural and leisure projects in Central Finland. Active participation is highlighted on a policy level as a solution to social inequality, exclusion, and marginalisation among young people. The article focuses on the cultural, social, economic, and political dimensions of participation by exploring the advantages that cultural projects bring to young people. The article theorises these dimensions by drawing on Bourdieu’s concept of capital to provide a more critical account of the participation paradigm. Maisterintutkielmassani tarkastelen, miten turvapaikanhakijoiden auttaminen rakentuu diskursiivisesti Facebookissa Refugees Welcome Keski-Suomi -sivulla. Euroopan pakolaiskriisin myötä Suomeen saapui viime vuonna yli 30 000 turvapaikanhakijaa, mikä synnytti kansalaisten keskuudessa auttamishalun, jollaista ei ole aikaisemmin Suomen mittakaavassa nähty. Tarkastelemani Facebook -sivu perustettiin turvapaikanhakijoiden auttamisen koordinoimiseksi. Vastaavanlaista sivustoa ei ole aikaisemmin perustettu, joten kyseessä on varsin uusi sosiaalisen median ilmiö. Erityisesti vanhusten määrän kasvu ja vähentyvät lähipalvelut ovat uhka julkiselle sosiaali- ja terveystoimelle. Yksinäisyys sekä vanhusten, maahanmuuttajien ja muiden ryhmien sosiaalisen tuen tarve ovat lisääntyneet. Arviointitutkimuksessani tarkastelen Jyväskylän kaupungin vapaaehtoistoiminnan keskuksen VaParin kehityshistoriaa ja vakiintumista yhteistyössä kolmannen sektorin kanssa. Lisäksi arvioin verkostoyhteistyön toteutumista ja VaParin tulevaisuuden näkymiä. Aineistoni sisältää VaParin toimintakertomuksia, muistioita ja muuta arkistoa vuosilta 1994–2004.
