Norm-inflation results for purely BBM-type Boussinesq systems
2022
This article is concerned with the norm-inflation phenomena associated with a periodic initial-value abcd-Benjamin-Bona-Mahony type Boussinesq system. We show that the initial-value problem is ill-posed in the periodic Sobolev spaces H−sp (0, 2π)×H−sp (0, 2π) for all s > 0. Our proof is constructive, in the sense that we provide smooth initial data that generates solutions arbitrarily large in H−sp (0, 2π) × H−sp (0, 2π)-norm for arbitrarily short time. This result is sharp since in [15] the well-posedness is proved to holding for all positive periodic Sobolev indexes of the form Hsp (0, 2π) × Hsp (0, 2π), including s = 0. peerReviewed
An efficient functional magnetic resonance imaging data reduction strategy using neighborhood preserving embedding algorithm
2021
High dimensionality data have become common in neuroimaging fields, especially group-level functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) datasets. fMRI connectivity analysis is a widely used, powerful technique for studying functional brain networks to probe underlying mechanisms of brain function and neuropsychological disorders. However, data-driven technique like independent components analysis (ICA), can yield unstable and inconsistent results, confounding the true effects of interest and hindering the understanding of brain functionality and connectivity. A key contributing factor to this instability is the information loss that occurs during fMRI data reduction. Data reduction of high …
Discovering hidden brain network responses to naturalistic stimuli via tensor component analysis of multi-subject fMRI data
2021
The study of brain network interactions during naturalistic stimuli facilitates a deeper understanding of human brain function. To estimate large-scale brain networks evoked with naturalistic stimuli, a tensor component analysis (TCA) based framework was used to characterize shared spatio-temporal patterns across subjects in a purely data-driven manner. In this framework, a third-order tensor is constructed from the timeseries extracted from all brain regions from a given parcellation, for all participants, with modes of the tensor corresponding to spatial distribution, time series and participants. TCA then reveals spatially and temporally shared components, i.e., evoked networks with the …
"I just saw someone die omfg" : multimodal representations of the shooting of Michael Brown on Tumblr
2015
Tutkielmani tarkoitus on selvittää kuinka kyseiseen ampumatapaukseen liittyvissä postauksissa Tumblrissa tapausta representoitiin, eli millaisia merkityksiä siitä rakennettiin multimodaalisin eli monikanavaisin keinoin. Aineist…

Remembered, Read and Experienced Time in Virtual Text (= Tempo lembrado, lido e experienciado no texto virtual)
2015
In this article I will scrutinize Screen (2002, by WARDRIP-FRUIN & al.), a literary work set and experienced in a CAVE Virtual Reality environment, especially from the perspective of its temporal aspects. There are obvious themes of remembering, forgetting and textually constructing the past in this work, but most notably, Screen emphasizes the temporality of the reading act itself. I will analyze this highly special work in relation to the remembered, read, and bodily experienced time, and thus, attempt to better understand both the notion of fictive time and the temporality of fiction. peerReviewed
Crisis management in social media : maintaining the organizational image
2017
The field of crisis communication has faced major changes since the expansion of internet and social media platforms. The difficulty of using social media platforms to or-ganizations’ own advantage in crisis situations has become a recent topic of discussion amongst professionals. The image of an organization provides them competitive advantage in multiple fields, so it is vital to manage these situations so the image remains positive with stakeholders. This thesis aims to provide insights for organizations on how to utilize social media in their crisis communication. 11 Finnish companies with crisis situations during the year 2016 were identified and the data was retrieved from social medi…
Adolescents' school-related self-concept mediates motor skills and psychosocial well-being.
2014
Background The health benefits of exercise participation and physical activity for mental health and psychosocial well-being (PSWB) have been shown in several studies. However, one important background factor, that is, motor skills (MSs), has largely been ignored. In addition, most of the existing research focuses on poor MSs, that is, poor MSs are often connected to poorer PSWB. The mechanism linking MSs and PSWB is unclear. However, a preliminary suggestion has been made that self-worth or self-perceptions might mediate the association between MSs and PSWB. Aim We investigated whether the self-concepts (SCs) of school-related physical education (SCPE), reading (SCR), and mathematics (SCM)…
Female style vs. male style or something in between? : a case study on gendered communication on the Humans of New York Facebook page
2015
Tutkimuksen aineisto koostui 170 tavallisten ihmisten kirjoittamista kommenteista, jotka valittiin suositulta Humans of New York Facebook-sivulta tammikuun 2015 aikana. Nämä kommentit jaettiin laadulli…
