Icons: Visual representation to enrich requirements engineering work

2013

Adapting icons in requirements engineering can support the multifaceted needs of stakeholders. Conventional ap- proaches to RE are mainly highlighted in diagrams. This paper introduces icon-based information as a way to represent ideas and concepts in the requirements engineering domain. We report on icon artifacts that support requirements engi- neering work such as priority types, status states and stakeholder kinds. We evaluate how users interpret meanings of icons and the efficacy of icon prototypes shaped to represent those requirements attributes. Our hypothesis is whether practitioners can recognize the icons’ meaning in terms of their functional representation. According to the empi…

The Reform of Vocational Education and Training in Finland: Insights from Twitter

2018

This paper aims to analyse and describe relationships and communication in Twitter in relation to vocational education and training reform in Finland. Data were collected during the early implementation phase of the reform from January 2018 to early June 2018. The data included 2400 tweets containing the hashtag #amisreformi (VET reform). Social network analysis was utilised to study the network and communities. The main themes of the tweets were analysed using thematic analysis, and automated sentiment analysis was used to examine the tones of the tweets and public opinion. The study showed that the official actors were central influencers in the network that lacked connectivity. Overall, …

Identity Use and Misuse of Public Persona on Twitter

2016

Social media sites have appeared during the last 10 years and their use has exploded all over the world. Twitter is a microblogging service that has currently 320 million user profiles and over 100 million daily active users. Many celebrities and leading politicians have a verified profile on Twitter, including Justin Bieber, president Obama, and the Pope. In this paper we investigate the '‘hundreds of Putins and Obamas phenomenon’ on Twitter. We collected two data sets in 2015 containing 582 and 6477 profiles that are related to the G20 leaders’ profiles on Twitter. The number of namesakes varied from 5 to 1000 per leader. We analysed in detail various aspects of the Putin and Erdogan rela…

Higher-order Nonnegative CANDECOMP/PARAFAC Tensor Decomposition Using Proximal Algorithm

2019

Tensor decomposition is a powerful tool for analyzing multiway data. Nowadays, with the fast development of multisensor technology, more and more data appear in higherorder (order > 4) and nonnegative form. However, the decomposition of higher-order nonnegative tensor suffers from poor convergence and low speed. In this study, we propose a new nonnegative CANDECOM/PARAFAC (NCP) model using proximal algorithm. The block principal pivoting method in alternating nonnegative least squares (ANLS) framework is employed to minimize the objective function. Our method can guarantee the convergence and accelerate the computation. The results of experiments on both synthetic and real data demonstrate …

Video Streaming and Internalized Surveillance

2018

This paper aims to develop knowledge about the complicated ways in which the modern individual uses surveillance (techniques) and the ways surveillance uses the individual. My observational analysis of a videostreaming community reveals the central role that surveillance plays in participating and becoming visible in an online environment. The results show that through disciplinary and lateral surveillance, participants produced context-defined I-narrations and formed themselves following the normative judgment of the environment. The same mechanism may be observed in other videostreaming social media environments and the modern social media-saturated society in general. This is an inconspi…

Coupling high-resolution satellite imagery with ALS-based canopy height model and digital elevation model in object-based boreal forest habitat type …

2014

We developed a classification workflow for boreal forest habitat type mapping. In object-based image analysis framework, Fractal Net Evolution Approach segmentation was combined with random forest classification. High-resolution WorldView-2 imagery was coupled with ALS based canopy height model and digital terrain model. We calculated several features (e.g. spectral, textural and topographic) per image object from the used datasets. We tested different feature set alternatives; a classification accuracy of 78.0 % was obtained when all features were used. The highest classification accuracy (79.1 %) was obtained when the amount of features was reduced from the initial 328 to the 100 most imp…

Evidence of Weak Halogen Bonding: New Insights on Itraconazole and its Succinic Acid Cocrystal

2012

Exact knowledge of the crystal structure of drugs and lead compounds plays a significant role in the fields of crystal engineering, docking, computational modeling (drug–receptor interactions), and rational design of potent drugs in pharmaceutical chemistry. The succinic acid cocrystal of the systemic antifungal drug, itraconazole, reported by Remenar et al. (J. Am. Chem. Soc.2003, 125, 8456–8457) (CSD: IKEQEU), represents one of the classical examples displaying a molecular fitting mechanism in the solid state. In this work, we disclose the X-ray single-crystal structure of the cis-itraconazole–succinic acid (2:1) cocrystal and found that it differs slightly from the previously reported st…
