Maijala on väitöskirjassaan tutkinut 1930-luvun talouspulan vaikutusta suomalaiseen maaseutuyhteisöön sekä yhteisön selviytymistä kohtaamastaan taloudellisesta kriisistä. Kriisin syntyyn vaikutti vanhakantaisen maaseutuyhteisön perinteisten toimintamallien yhteentörmäys modernisoituvan yhteiskunnan kanssa. Murros johti talonpoikasen väestön monimuotoiseen vastarintaan, ja kriisistä selviytyminen vaati ennen kaikkea kykyä sopeutua muutokseen. Vaikka Maijalan tutkimuksen kohteena on Kalajokilaakso ja siellä erityisesti Reisjärvi, väitöskirjan tarkoituksena ei ole tutkia yksittäistä kohdetta. Vaasan läänin maa- ja puutarhatalouden alueellinen erikoistuneisuus -tutkimus on osa Maaseudun uusi alueellinen kehitysstrategia - konkreettisena sovelluskohteena Vaasan lääni -tutkimushanketta. Tutkimuskokonaisuuden tarkoituksena on luoda Vaasan läänin maa- ja puutarhataloutta sekä muuta pientä ja keskisuurta yritystoimintaa varten alueelliseen erikoistumiseen perustuvia kehitysmalleja. Influence of axial mirror ratios on the kinetic instability threshold in electron cyclotron resonance ion source plasma

International audience; Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) ion source plasmas are prone to kinetic instabilities. The onset of the instabilities manifests as emission of microwaves, bursts of electrons expelled from the plasma volume, and the collapse of the extracted highly charged ion (HCI) currents. Consequently, the instabilities limit the HCI performance of ECR ion sources by limiting the parameter space available for ion source optimization. Biogas production from ensiled maize with and without hydrothermal pretreatment

Energy crops are suitable substrates for anaerobic digestion. In the future their use will probably increase, and among other things optimum storage and pretreatment technologies should be developed. In this study eight maize silage varieties grown in Piikkiö, Southern Finland were used as substrates in anaerobic digestion. Also hydrothermal pretreatment was used to improve the biogas yield. Composition of the maize silage and the pretreated maize silage were analyzed and inhibitors were analyzed from the pretreated maize silage.
