Glycolytic flux in white muscle can be increased several-hundredfold by exercise. Phosphofructokinase (PFK; EC 2.7.1.11) is a key, regulatory enzyme of glycolysis, but how its activity in muscle is controlled is not fully, understood. In order not to neglect integrative aspects of metabolic regulation, we have studied in frogs (Rana temporaria) a physiological form of muscle work (swimming) that can be triggered like a reflex. Introduction: Basic self-reports of physical activity (PA) has been applied by clinicians to identify whether adolescents with asthma are physically active. Aim: To investigate whether basic self-reports of PA in adolescents with and without asthma can be used as an indicator of PA with objective measures as criterion. AIMS/INTRODUCTION In patients with pulmonary embolism (PE), the impact of diabetes mellitus on patient profile and outcome is not well investigated. MATERIAL AND METHODS The German nationwide inpatient sample of the years 2005-2018 was analyzed. Hospitalized PE patients were stratified for diabetes, and the impact of diabetes on in-hospital events was investigated. RESULTS Overall, 1,174,196 PE patients (53.8% aged ≥70 years, 53.5% women) and, among these, 219,550 (18.7%) diabetes patients were included. Dehydrated lemon peel (DLP) at two levels (1.5% and 3%) was included for 30 days in the diet of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) and after 15 and 30 days the serum and skin mucus of fish were analysed. In serum, both experimental diets led to an initial decrease in glucose and lactate after which the levels became comparable to the control. Dietary DLP modulated the activity of transaminases, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase.
