Tuvākā skaidra redzes punkta noteikšanu ietekmējošie faktori

2021

2018

Masteroppgave psykisk helsearbeid ME504 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Background: The transition from inpatient treatment to own accommodation, the so-called “backsliding zone”, should according to research and experience happen as a gradual process where each individual gets more increasing responsibility. In Tyrili the students are offered life skills training as a part of the course of the drug treatment. This offer contributes to strengthen each individual’s ability to master his or her own living- and life situation. The background of this study was to gain knowledge of how life skills training can contribute to a good transition for life after treatment. Problem statement and motivatio…

Continuous play : leisure engagement in competitive fighting games and taekwondo

2023

In order to better understand the development of play and games in modern lives, this article examines two competitive leisure groups: digital fighting game players and traditional taekwondo practitioners. Drawing on qualitative offline/online interviews (n = 56) and close reading of externally documented life narratives (n = 14), we explore how the modes and motives of engagement fluctuate in competitive players over time. The study provides a new developmental approach to continuous competitive play as leisure. Our results show rather than making linear progress from ‘casual’ to ‘serious’ leisure, individuals in both groups perceive their lasting relationships with these activities gradua…

Does Airbnb Disrupt the Private Rental Market? An Empirical Analysis for French Cities

2019

This article evaluates whether Airbnb rentals affect the rents in the private rental sector in eight cities in France. We estimate a hedonic equation for each city on individual data for apartments, allowing for heteroscedasticity and spatial error autocorrelation of unknown forms and using a large variety of structural and contextual characteristics of the apartments. We show that the density of Airbnb rentals puts upward pressure on rents in Lyon, Montpellier, and Paris, whereas it has no significant effect in other cities. If we restrict the analysis to the professional business of Airbnb rentals, which we define as the lodgings owned by an investor who rents either several “entire home…

Millenials’ intentions to book on Airbnb

2018

The sharing economy has witnessed a significant growth in recent years, enhanced by the development of online platforms. In particular, Airbnb has witnessed a significant worldwide year-on-year growth. Given the importance and popularity of Airbnb, it is crucial to examine which factors affect intentions to book on this website. This study proposes and tests a model based on the Theory of Reasoned Action, to examine millennials’ determinants of intentions to book on Airbnb. Based on two online surveys targeting millennials from Germany and China, the results show that intentions to book on Airbnb is mostly influenced by subjective norm, desire for unique accommodation and variety, attitude …

A method for calculating the crowding-out effect in sport mega-event impact studies: The 2010 FIFA World Cup

2011

Tourist expenditures constituted the largest part of the economic impact of South Africa's 2010 FIFA Football World Cup. However, limited air transport capacity and increased accommodation prices may have led to crowding-out effects. Until now, crowding-out could only be considered by using econometric modelling based on data of inbound arrival or accommodation statistics. This paper suggests a methodology for measuring the crowding-out effect precisely. It is based on the available statistics in South Africa and is applicable at province level. An important innovation is to distinguish crowding-out from time-switching effects. The paper explains the theoretical framework of crowding-out as…

Factors influencing the adoption postponement of mobile payment services in the hospitality sector during a pandemic

2021

Abstract In the post-COVID-19 era, the hospitality sector may witness a wider use of mobile payment services (MPS) not requiring physical contact. But consumers may postpone adoption of MPS in wait for a more attractive iteration. Given consumers' reluctance to adapt to such services, an investigation into MPS adoption postponement and the factors contributing to it is thus needed. Our research model extends the innovation resistance theory by including two behavioral measures (privacy concerns and visibility) and examining how security concerns moderate the associations between them. We analyzed data from 308 respondents who had previously purchased accommodation and transportation service…

Determinants of individual tourist expenditure as a network: Empirical findings from Uruguay

2014

Abstract This paper introduces the use of graphical models for assessing the determinants of individual tourist spending. These models have the advantage of synthesizing and visualizing the relationships occurring within large sets of random variables, through an easy to interpret output. To this end, individual data from a large official survey of international tourists in Uruguay are used. Symmetric conditional independence structures are first investigated. Then subgraphs of each expenditure item's neighbourhood are extracted in order to assess the impact of main effects and interactions through proportional ordinal logistic regression. Results highlight the marginal role of socio-demogr…

Key drivers of services website loyalty

2014

The ease of website comparison and strong price competition encourage users to constantly switch tourism service providers. The present work analyses how satisfaction, trust, and commitment can help to strengthen loyalty towards websites selling accommodation services. Moreover, special attention is paid here to evaluate the moderating effects of gender on the relationships between these variables. Structural equation models were used to test the hypotheses on a sample of 230 Mexican Internet users, online purchasers of tourist accommodation services. The results show significant differences between men and women's post-purchase behaviour with a higher influence in women of trust on commitm…

Tourism Activity of Member States and Romania's Place within the First Five Years after EU Accession

2013

Abstract This paper is a brief statistical analysis of the evolution of tourism in the EU-27 in the first five years after Romania's accession. The analysis was based on official data published by Eurostat regarding the tourist accommodation capacity by categories, the number of arrivals and overnight stays of tourists and non-residents. I highlighted each time Romania's place within Member States, preferring graphics that are more suggestive than synthetic data tables. In conclusions I have highlighted the changes occurred in Romania, far from those expected after five years as a member of the European Union.
