To obtain a carrier polymer for pharmacologically active components, linear polyethyleneimine (LPEI) was chemically modified by reactions with acrylic acid (1a), acrylamide (1b), acrylic acid esters (1c and 1d), sodium chloroacetate, and hydrochloric acid. All product polymers 2a – 2e are soluble in water. Among these, 2a and 2e, β- and α-amino acid derivatives, respectively, show no acute toxicity in mice up to dosages of 1 g/kg i. v. An apparatus is presented for the precise measurement of vapour pressures. It is tested with diethyl ether and applied to the system tert-butyle acetate/polystyrene (weight-average molecular weight Mw = 110000) up to polymer concentrations of ca. 60 wt.-% in the temperature range from 10 to 90°C; by means of the Redlich-Kister equation the results can well be described analytically. The data are evaluated to yield the Flory-Huggins parameter in the subsequent article in conjunction with other experimental information.

Effect of konjac glucomannan addition on aroma release in gels containing potato starch.

International audience; The present study aimed to measure the retention of aroma compounds (ethyl acetate, ethyl hexanoate and carvacrol) in dispersions based on konjac glucomannan and/or potato starch, and to highlight the influence of konjac glucomannan on the mechanisms involved in aroma retention. Publications on the effect of konjac glucomannan on aroma release are scarce. Konjac glocomannan is a polysaccharide used as a food additive for its viscous and emulsifying properties. Primary and secondary benzylic alcohols and secondary aliphatic alcohols were oxidized to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones by using [bis(acetoxy)iodo]benzene (BAIB) and a catalytic amount of bromide ions, from tetrabutylammonium bromide or KBr, in ethyl acetate. The catalytic role of the bromide ions was also highlighted in the oxidation of primary aliphatic alcohols and secondary allylic alcohols carried out in the presence of 1 mol% TEMPO.

Diphosphines of dppf-Type Incorporating Electron-Withdrawing Furyl Moieties Substantially Improve the Palladium-Catalysed Amination of Allyl Acetates

Highly active Pd/diphosphine catalytic systems incorporating new, air-stable ferrocenyl-furylphosphines allow nucleophilic allylic amination at room temperature with unprecedented turnover frequencies. For instance, in the presence of 0.01 mol % catalyst the coupling of aniline to allyl acetate occurs at a TOF of more than 10,000 h - 1 ; even the addition of the less nucleophile morpholine to allyl acetate is observed with a TOF of 4250 h - 1 . A light induced, transition-metal-free C-C coupling reaction of 2-chlorobenzazoles with aliphatic carbamates, alcohols, and ethers is presented. Inexpensive reagents, namely sodium acetate, benzophenone, water, and acetonitrile, are employed in a simple reaction protocol using a cheap and widely available 25 W energy saving UV-A lamp at ambient temperature.

ChemInform Abstract: Continuous Hydrothermal Synthesis of Nanometric BaZrO3in Supercritical Water.

Abstract Nanocrystalline barium zirconate (BaZrO 3 ) was synthesized using a hydrothermal synthesis process working in supercritical conditions and in a continuous way. By this method, we succeeded in the continuous and rapid production of nanopowders. As a preliminary work three barium precursors have been investigated: barium hydroxide (Ba(OH) 2 ), barium acetate (Ba(CH 3 COO) 2 ) and barium nitrate (Ba(NO 3 ) 2 ). Two of them (Ba(CH 3 COO) 2 and Ba(NO 3 ) 2 ) led to the pure perovskite phase. Then an experimental design has been conducted in order to determine the influence of the experimental parameters on the crystallinity and the grain size of the final product.

The applicability of capillary electrophoresis with UV and electrospray ionisation (ESI)-mass spectrometric detection to the determination of alkaloids in crude extracts of Cortex Quebracho and opium has been investigated. The use of a buffer electrolyte consisting of aqueous ammonium acetate (pH 3.1) and acetonitrile resulted in a high performance of peak resolution. Most of the alkaloids have been identified according to the signal of the protonated molecular ion in the ESI mass spectrum
