Blue biotechnology: oil bioremediation using hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria immobilized on biodegradable membranes
2017
A novel bioremediation system to clean up oil contaminated water was developed combining hydrocarbon (HC) degrading bacteria immobilized and polylactic acid (PLA) or polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes prepared by electrospinning. The bioremediation efficiency was tested on crude oil using highly performant HC degrading bacterial strains isolated from marine and soil environments. The membrane morphology, the microbial adhesion and proliferation were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM analysis highlighted that the fibers of the electrospun mats were in nanoscale with a similar diameter size distribution. The electrospun membranes exhibited high oil absorption capacity …
Modeling and Design of Membrane Integrated Processes for HCl and Metals Recovery from Pickling Solutions
2018
Hydrochloric acid pickling is a common practice in steel manufacturing industry. During the process, acid is consumed to dissolve surface oxides and metals are accumulated in the solution. This fact leads to a process efficiency decrease. Continuous regeneration of pickling solutions enhances process rate and performance, but also minimises the highly expensive and environmentally risky wastewater disposal. The recovery of valuable substances (e.g. acid and metals) can be accomplished by coupling diffusion dialysis (DD) and membrane distillation (MD) technologies. In the present work, a steady state process simulator for the integrated process has been developed. The aim is to analyze and p…
Examples of UV–Vis profiles use as tool for evidence of the metallophthalocyanines transformation
2017
Abstract The UV–Vis spectra for a set of MPcs (Mmetal, Pc = phthalocyanine ligand), i.e.: In(III)PcI (1), Hf(IV)PcI2Pht (Pht = phthalonitrile) (2), Sn(II)Pc (3), Sn(IV)PcI2 (4), and Ge(IV)PcI2 (5) have been examined in two solvents, O-donative acetylacetone, and non-coordinative benzene. The UV–Vis spectra in Hacac solution of 1,2 and 4,5 shows that the axially ligated iodine atoms are replaced by (acac)− anions of the solvent, whereas in 3 the oxygen donors of the solvent causing the auto-oxidation of Sn(II) to Sn(IV) ions and as a result the Sn(II)Pc is transformed into the Sn(IV)Pc(acac)2. The chloride complexes of the 1–5 compounds are formed at Hacac solution after acidification by hyd…

Complexes of Glycolic Acid with Nitrogen Isolated in Argon Matrices. I. Structures and Thermal Effects.
2019
Molecular complexes between glycolic acid and nitrogen were studied in a low-temperature argon matrix with FTIR spectroscopy, and supported by MP2 and BLYPD3 calculations. The calculations indicate 11 and 10 stable complex structures at the MP2 and BLYPD3 levels of theories, respectively. However, only one hydrogen-bonded complex structure involving the most stable SSC conformer of glycolic acid was found experimentally, where the nitrogen molecule is bound with the carboxylic OH group of the SSC conformer. The complex shows a rich site structure variation upon deposition of the matrix in different temperatures and upon annealing experiments, which provide interesting prospects for site-sel…
Complexes of Glycolic Acid with Nitrogen Isolated in Argon Matrices. II : Vibrational Overtone Excitations
2019
Structural changes of glycolic acid (GA) complex with nitrogen induced by selective overtone excitation of the νOH mode were followed in argon matrices using FTIR spectroscopy. For the most stable SSC1 complex present in different trapping sites directly upon deposition site, selective changes in the νOH region were achieved upon near-infrared irradiation. Simultaneously, new conformers of the GA…N2 complex were formed, giving rise to several sets of bands in the νOH and νC=O regions of the spectra. Both position and intensity of new absorptions appeared to be highly sensitive on the wavelength of radiation used, as well as on the annealing of the matrix. Based on theoretical calculations a…

The use of hydrogen purification and mixture of cosmetics acids, and the influence on acne skin parameters: a case report
2022
Background: Acne vulgaris is a common disease which causes physical and mental ailments that are associated with a significantly reduced quality of life. Contemporary cosmetology is looking for innovative and effective methods of treating acne vulgaris. The synergistic action of acids and hydrogen purification has a positive effect on the reduction of sebum secretion and thus the amount of skin eruptions. The aim of the study : To check the effectiveness of hydrogen purification treatment combined with topical acids for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Case report: The participant of this study is a 20-year-old female, struggling with acne vulgaris for 5 years. She has a problem with large s…
Acne vulgaris and the most popular and new cosmetological treatments
2023
Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a disease that has an enormous impact on appearance of the skin of the patients and also on their quality of life. Long-term dermatological treatment, which often lasts years, and disease relapses contribute to the occurrence of low self-esteem and depression. Acne is one of the 10 most common diseases in the world and the most common inflammatory skin disease. Many methods of dermatological treatment that bring very good results are available. However, educating people with acne on how to take care of their skin on a daily basis to minimize the bleak effects of the disease is an extremely important element. Contemporary cosmetology creates an environment for …
