Evaluating resurfacing modalities in aesthetics.
2022
Abstract Skin resurfacing for cutaneous rejuvenation has evolved with the development of a plethora of nonsurgical and minimally invasive modalities. We have highlighted the advances in laser therapy, chemical peels, radiofrequency, microneedling, and platelet-rich plasma therapy. We have also included studies providing head-to-head comparisons between procedures and discussed relevant debates in the field. We have examined additionally combination treatments and resurfacing in acne scars, melasma, and skin of color.
Cranial nerve function in workers exposed to polychlorinated dioxins and furans
2002
OBJECTIVE: To look for possible effects of polychlorinated dioxins and furans (PCDD/F) on cranial nerve function. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Clinical and neurophysiological examinations [visual and brainstem auditory evoked potentials (VEP and BAEP), blink reflex] in 121 PCDD/F exposed workers of one pesticide producing plant. RESULTS: BAEP abnormalities were more frequent in workers with chloracne (6 of 33 workers, 18.2%) than in those without chloracne (7 of 84, 8.3%), but this was not statistically significant (chi2: 2.33). VEP abnormalities were seen in one worker with and two without chloracne. Clinically visual functions were normal except in one worker, who was amaurotic since birth. Blin…

2021
Background: Acne vulgaris is a prevalent dermatological disease characterized by skin eruptions, which may decrease the sufferer’s quality of life. Alopecia areata and isotretinoin; coincidence or causal relation
2020
Isotretinoin is a safe and useful medication for acne management. Adverse effects are mostly related to cutaneous and mucous membranes. We present a case of a 24-year-old female patient who was on treatment with isotretinoin for acne vulgaris Grade 4. After 6 months of treatment, the patient presented with localized patch of hair loss. Beginning of alopecia areata in patients with acne vulgaris could be regarded as a side effect of retinoids due to anti-acne therapy. The exact mechanism by which retinoids cause hair loss is not known.
Selective RAR agonists for acne vulgaris: A narrative review.
2019
Background Acne vulgaris is a chronic disfiguring inflammatory disease of adolescents and adults affecting up to 90% of the population around the world. The sequence of etiopathogenesis in acne is not completely understood but involves abnormalities in sebum production, follicular plugging, proliferation of propionibacterium acnes, and chronic inflammation. Aims This review aims to summarize the features of the topical selective RAR agonists in treating acne vulgaris with a special emphasis on the 4th generation topical retinoid trifarotene. Methods Studies were identified by searching electronic databases (MEDLINE and PubMed) till August 2019 and reference lists of respective articles. Onl…
A comparison of the relative efficacy of antiandrogens for the treatment of acne in hyperandrogenic women
2002
Summary objectives To compare the relative effectiveness of two newer antiandrogens (flutamide and finasteride) with cyproterone acetate (CPA), at both low and high doses in the treatment of moderate to severe acne in hyperandrogenic women. subjects and design Forty-eight hyperandrogenic women were prospectively randomized to the following treatments for 1 year: CPA 2 mg with 35 µg ethinylestradiol; CPA 50 mg with 25 µg ethinylestradiol (reverse sequential regimen); flutamide 250 mg daily; and finasteride 5 mg daily. Assessment of Cook scores was the primary end-point of the trial. Blood for androgens was obtained at baseline in these women and 30 ovulatory age-matched controls. results Ser…
Combining Deroofing with LAight® Therapy for Long-Term Disease Control of Hurley Stage II Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Case Report
2021
There is an increasing consensus that the treatment of Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) significantly varies with the degree of inflammation and that treatment according to guidelines is not always successful. Here, we report the case of a 31-year-old male with widespread, highly inflammatory Hurley Stage II HS in multiple locations who failed to respond to any kind of established medical treatment, including biologics. As an alternative approach, Ustekinumab was maintained, and additionally the patient was treated with LAight therapy, a combination of intense pulsed light and radiofrequency. After 10 sessions, deroofing of multiple lesions was performed in a two-step process. After a few week…
