Abstract We propose a method for the estimation of the channel parameters of underwater acoustic channels (UACs) by using a pseudo-noise (PN) sequence. For the channel sounding, the PN sequence is coherently modulated on a carrier frequency by using a binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) modulation scheme. For the demodulation, the arrival phases of the received BPSK signals must be known at the receiver. In practice, however, the arrival phases of the received signal are unknown. We discuss a new approach to three-dimensional electrical impedance imaging based on a reduction of the information to be demanded from a reconstruction algorithm. Images are obtained from a single measurement by suitably simplifying the geometry of the measuring chamber and by restricting the nature of the object to be imaged and the information required from the image. Doppler Power Characteristics Obtained from Calibrated Channel State Information for Human Activity Recognition

This paper demonstrates the time-variant (TV) Doppler power characteristics of human activities using measured channel state information (CSI). We model the measured CSI as a complex channel transfer function corresponding to a 3D non-stationary multipath fading channel consisting of a fixed transmitter, a fixed receiver, fixed scatterers representing fixed objects, and a cluster of moving scatterers representing a moving person performing some human activities. Chopped light produces an acoustic signal in a closed cell when it is absorbed by a sample of material within this cell. This effect is used to develop a method for measuring the absorption coefficient of aerosol particles. The possibilities and limits of the method are discussed.

Psycho-acoustic parameters have been extensively used to evaluate the discomfort or pleasure produced by the sounds in our environment. In this context, wireless acoustic sensor networks (WASNs) can be an interesting solution for monitoring subjective annoyance in certain soundscapes, since they can be used to register the evolution of such parameters in time and space. Path Integral approach via Laplace’s method of integration for nonstationary response of nonlinear systems

In this paper the nonstationary response of a class of nonlinear systems subject to broad-band stochastic excitations is examined. A version of the Path Integral (PI) approach is developed for determining the evolution of the response probability density function (PDF). Specifically, the PI approach, utilized for evaluating the response PDF in short time steps based on the Chapman–Kolmogorov equation, is here employed in conjunction with the Laplace’s method of integration. The present paper reports on the results of our participation to the depression sub-challenge of the sixth Audio/Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC 2016), which was designed to compare feature modalities ( audio, visual, interview transcript-based) in gender-based and gender-independent modes using a variety of classification algorithms. Effect of Footstep Vibrations and Proprioceptive Vibrations Used with an Innovative Navigation Method

This study proposes to investigate the effect of adding vibration feedback to a navigation task in virtual environment. Previous study used footstep vibrations and proprioceptive vibrations in order to decrease the cyber-sickness and increase the sense of presence. In this study, we experiment the same vibration modalities but with a new navigation method. The results show that proprioceptive vibrations do not impact the sense of presence neither the cyber-sickness while footstep vibrations increase sense of presence and decrease in a certain way cyber-sickness.
