The academic-practitioner relationship has been alleged to be subject to various tensions and dualities; the divide between academia and practice has even been characterized as unbridgeable. This paper presents a research case of a long-lasting, successful collaboration between a researcher and senior practitioners during a PhD research process. Climate change may affect bird populations both directly by changing the weather conditions, and indirectly through changes in the food chain. While both theoretical and empirical studies have shown climate change having drastic impacts on polar areas, its consequences on Arctic bird species are still poorly known. Here we investigated how weather and changes in predator–prey interactions affected the annual growth rates of sub-Arctic birds by monitoring the breeding numbers of three duck and seven wader species in the alpine tundra of Finnish Lapland during 2005–2015 (except for 2006). This work focuses on the study of personal determinants of pupils' achievement and reactions toward class (well-being; satisfaction with teacher, learning and class). A theoretical model is tested by commonality analysis and refined by causal paths analysis. The results show that external and cognitive prior characteristics (age, gender, socio-occupational background, academic record) have direct effects on criteria variables, and indirectly via the attitudes toward school (negative feelings; scholastic interest; aspirations for future studies; "scholastic anxiety, worry and stress"; fun school).
