How the Issue of Unemployment and the Unemployed Is Treated in Adult Education Literature within Polish and U.S. Contexts

This paper, based on a qualitative analysis of adult education literature, presents a comparison of approaches to unemployment-related problems in Poland and the US. Unemployment serves here as a lens through which attitudes towards various areas connected with adult education can be viewed. The conclusions drawn from the research can be both the source of reflection for adult educators in different socio-cultural contexts as well as the starting point for further research related to the topics explored in the text
Negative emotional consequences of labour market activation policies for long-term unemployed young adults in Finland

PurposeThis article deals with the negative emotional consequences of active labour market policies (ALMPs) for long-term unemployed young adults in Finland. Although such policies may have positive effects, an exploration of their negative impacts reveals their problematic side effects. We explore various aspects of ALMP interventions that prevent individuals from gaining such positive outcomes and thus reduce their motivation to invest in the policies.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on the affect theory of social exchange, we understand that individuals seek positive rewards from social interactions. L’espressione russa byt’ čelovekom, che può essere tradotta dal russo come “essere uomo” o come “essere una persona umana”, è ampiamente usata nella letteratura, nella pubblicistica e nelle espressioni colloquiali. Il termine čelovek è contraddistinto da un’evidente polisemia, pertanto nei dizionari bilingue viene tradotto con diversi termini italiani: essere umano, persona, persona umana, uomo. There is a lack of knowledge, how sports club participation changes from adolescence to early adulthood in Finland, and how goal orientation influences on it.
