Insulin receptors and insulin sensitivity in normo and hyperinsulinemic obese patients

The authors have studied insulin receptors on peripheral blood monocytes and insulin sensitivity, evaluated by simultaneous infusion of glucose, insulin and somatostatin in 10 control subjects and in 20 obese patients with normal glucose tolerance. The obese patients have been divided into two groups, normo (NO) and hyperinsulinemic (HO), according to the total insulin response during OGTT. We considered HO patients with insulin response higher than M + 2DS of controls. Use of glargine in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes mellitus: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Insulin glargine is a once-daily basal insulin analog with prolonged duration of action and absence of an evident peak. Glargine is associated with reduced frequency of hypoglycemic episodes (mostly nocturnal) as well as effective glycemic control. Maintenance of good metabolic control before conception and throughout pregnancy is essential to lower the risk of fetal malformations. Glargine might be a valuable alternative in the management of pregnancies complicated by diabetes mellitus. Placental infiltration of inflammatory markers in gestational diabetic women.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is pathology of glucose intolerance during pregnancy. It is influenced by maternal hyperglycemia and insulinemia through placental circulation. The study was undertaken to investigate the implication of pro-inflammatory factors in the placenta of GDM women. Thirty GDM women have delivered macrosomic babies, and 30 healthy age-matched pregnant women have delivered non macrosomic babies, were recruited in the study. Visual-motion suppression in congenital pendular nystagmus.

Patients with a congenital pendular nystagmus are known not to experience oscillopsia in a normal visual environment. The data of a 31-year-old female patient suffering from a congenital pendular nystagmus are presented. The aim of the fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) experiment was to analyze the regional cerebral glucose metabolism (rCGM) during minimal as well as maximal nystagmus. Three commercial systems for whole blood separation were compared to obtain the buffy coat composed of platelet-rich plasma (BC-PRP) and leucocytes . These samples of the buffy coat were used to make a platelet gel (PG), which was used to measure platelet growth factor (PGF) release, to perform a white blood cell (WBC) count and to measure myeloperoxidase (MPO) release from WBCs.
