The hard palate and mid‐palatal suture are highly important for orthodontic treatment. In cases of transverse maxillary deficiency, palatal expansion is the treatment of choice. Stromal SPARC contributes to the detrimental fibrotic changes associated with myeloproliferation whereas its deficiency favors myeloid cell expansion.

Abstract In myeloid malignancies, the neoplastic clone outgrows normal hematopoietic cells toward BM failure. This event is also sustained by detrimental stromal changes, such as BM fibrosis and osteosclerosis, whose occurrence is harbinger of a dismal prognosis. We show that the matricellular protein SPARC contributes to the BM stromal response to myeloproliferation. The degree of SPARC expression in BM stromal elements, including CD146+ mesenchymal stromal cells, correlates with the degree of stromal changes, and the severity of BM failure characterizing the prototypical myeloproliferative neoplasm primary myelofibrosis. Background Retrospective publications show a decrease in the bleeding frequency and an improvement in the quality of life (QoL) in severe adult haemophilia A (SAHA) after switching from the on-demand treatment (DT) to secondary prophylaxis (SP). AML transformation in 56 patients with Ph- MPD in two well defined populations.

The Philadelphia chromosome-negative (Ph-) chronic myeloproliferative disorders (MPD) have an inherent tendency for transformation into acute myelogenous leukaemia (AML). The long-term rate of leukaemic transformation in unselected MPD patients was studied in well-defined MPD populations in Gothenburg, Sweden and the Cote d'Or area, Burgundy, France, respectively. Over a median observation time of 15 yr, 56 subjects (7%) out of a total of 795 patients with Ph- MPD transformed to AML. The yearly incidence of AML transformation was 0.38% in polycythaemia vera (PV), 0.37% in essential thrombocythaemia (ET) and 1.09% in idiopathic myelofibrosis (IMF). This study, performed on behalf of the Italian Registry of Thrombocythaemias (Registro Italiano Trombocitemie), aimed to test the inter-observer reproducibility of the histological parameters proposed by the WHO classification for the diagnosis of the Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms. Summary Erythropoietin (EPO) is a potent regulator of the viability, proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells. Its effect is mediated by binding to the erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R), a member of a new cytokine receptor family.
