New Diosgenin Glycosides from Costus afer

Two new steroidal saponins, aferosides B (1) and C (2), together with the known saponins, dioscin (3) and paryphyllin C (4), were isolated from the roots of Costus afer. The known flavonoid glycoside, kaempferol 3-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (5), was obtained from the aerial parts. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated principally by 2D NMR spectral methods. A structural revision of the sugar sequence was made for the previously reported saponin aferoside A (6) on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis. Saponins 1−4 and 6 did not show any ability to potentiate in vitro cisplatin cytotoxicity in a human colon cancer cell line.

1. Undesired effects of cancer radiotherapy mainly affect the hematopoietic system. Growth hormone (GH) participates in both hematopoiesis and modulation of the immune response. We report both r-hGH cell death prevention and restoration of secretory capacities of irradiated human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) in vitro. 2. r-hGH induced cell survival and increased proliferation of irradiated cells. Hexavalent (HV) vaccination is a priority for newborn protection and in Italy is included in the National Immunization Plan with a three doses cycle at 61, 121 and 301 days of age. A retrospective clinical study has been conducted to evaluate real life clinical practice of HV vaccination in the fourth most populous Italian Region. Data on the completion of the HV cycle, on the interchangeability between the two HV adopted in 2016–2017 (DTaP3-IPV-HB/Hib) and 2018–2019 (DTaP5-IPV-HB-Hib) and on the use above the established age, were collected in five Sicilian Local Health Authorities. Gene therapy and gene editing are revolutionising the treatment of genetic diseases, most notably haematological disorders. This paper evaluates the use of both techniques in hereditary blood disorders. Many studies have been conducted in this field, especially with gene therapy, with very promising results in diseases such as haemophilia, certain haemoglobinopathies and Fanconi anaemia. SUMMARY 1. In our study we followed the growth rate and the haematologic changes occurring in albino rats of Wistar strain when living in a hypoxic environment. Two generations of hypoxic rats were observed for changes in their erythrocytes (RBC), haematocrit (Hct) and haemoglobin (Hb): the first generation (H1) and the second generation (H2). A few hours after birth, the H1 rats were placed and raised in a normobaric hypoxic environment (10% O2 in N2). The H2 rats were born and raised in the environment previously described. Abstract Supercritical Antisolvent Extraction (SAE) was used in the recovery of antioxidant compounds from mango by-products. The antioxidant extract was obtained by solid–liquid extraction using aqueous acetone (80% v/v) and subsequent adsorption/desorption in C18 cartridge. Recovery of antioxidants was performed by SAE using SC-CO 2 as antisolvent. The temperature and pressure parameters were varied in the range 35–45 °C and 8–15 MPa. The antimicrobial activity of surfactant-associated anionic peptides (SAAPs), which are isolated from the ovine pulmonary surfactant and are selective against the ovine pathogen Mannheimia haemolytica, is strongly enhanced in the presence of Zn(II) ions. Both calorimetry and ITC measurements show that the unique Asp-only peptide SAAP3 (DDDDDDD) and its analogs SAAP2 (GDDDDDD) and SAAP6 (GADDDDD) have a similar micromolar affinity for Zn(II), which binds to the N-terminal amine and Asp carboxylates in a net entropically-driven process. Familial defective apolipoprotein (apo) B (FDB) and familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) are the two common genetic conditions that cause hypercholesterolaemia. R3531C mutation of the APOB gene is a rare cause of FDB. Individuals with both FDB and FH are rare. A 51-year-old man with hypercholesterolaemia (11.4 mmol/L) and his family were studied. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor (LDLR) and APOB genes were analysed by direct sequencing. LDL of four subjects were studied in a fibroblast LDL receptor-binding displacement assay.
