Duodenal and Rectal Mucosa Inflammation in Patients With Non-celiac Wheat Sensitivity

2019

Background & Aims: Studies of non-celiac gluten or wheat sensitivity (NCGWS) have increased but there are no biomarkers of this disorder. We aimed to evaluate histologic features of colon and rectal tissues from patients with NCGWS. Methods: We performed a prospective study of 78 patients (66 female; mean age, 36.4 years) diagnosed with NCGWS by double-blind wheat challenge at 2 tertiary care centers in Italy, from January 2015 through September 2016. Data were also collected from 55 patients wither either celiac disease or self-reported NCGWS but negative results from the wheat-challenge test (non-NCGWS controls). Duodenal and rectal biopsies were collected and analyzed by immunohistoc…

Colonoscopy for screening of colorectal cancer. What are the news? Review

2003

The goal of every routine endoscopy in the gut is the early diagnosis of malignant and premalignant changes of the mucosa. Chromo- and magnifying endoscopes are exciting new tools and offer detailed analysis of the colonic mucosal surface and pit pattern architecture. This review summarizes recent advances in endoscopic characterization of colorectal lesions using magnification endoscopy and chromoendoscopy. Surface analysis of the colon using chromoendoscopy allows a prediction between nonneoplastic and neoplastic lesions with high specificity. The precise delineation of the borders and a more detailed macroscopic analysis of the lesions are further advantages. In particular, flat adenomas…

Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in pregnancy: The state of the art

2014

Cervical cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in pregnancy and cervical screening should be accordingly performed in this particular situation. Occurrence of a preneoplastic cervical disease in pregnancy has for a long time represented a challenge for the clinician, both in terms of diagnostic accuracy, treatment options and risk of obstetrical complications. For these reasons, lack of uniformity in diagnosis and management is still commonly observed and the need for evidence-based clarifications is strongly required. Consistently with the literature evidences and accordingly with international guidelines, this review aim to overview the most significant aspects of the issue and…

Getting Docking into Shape Using Negative Image-Based Rescoring

2019

The failure of default scoring functions to ensure virtual screening enrichment is a persistent problem for the molecular docking algorithms used in the structure-based drug discovery. To remedy this problem, elaborate rescoring and post-processing schemes have been developed with a varying degree of success, specificity, and cost. The negative imagebased rescoring (R-NiB) has been shown to improve the flexible docking performance markedly with a variety of drug targets. The yield improvement is achieved by comparing the alternative docking poses against the negative image of the target protein’s ligand-binding cavity. In other words, the shape and electrostatics of the binding pocket is dir…

Valutazione dell’attività antagonista di Psyllaephagus bliteus Riek (Hym. Encyrtidae) e caratterizzazione molecolare delle popolazioni.

2016

The Transcription Factors TBX2 and TBX3 Interact with Human Papillomavirus 16 (HPV16) L2 and Repress the Long Control Region of HPVs

2013

ABSTRACT The minor capsid protein L2 of human papillomaviruses (HPVs) has multiple functions during the viral life cycle. Although L2 is required for effective invasion and morphogenesis, only a few cellular interaction partners are known so far. Using yeast two-hybrid screening, we identified the transcription factor TBX2 as a novel interaction partner of HPV type 16 (HPV16) L2. Coimmunoprecipitations and immunofluorescence analyses confirmed the L2-TBX2 interaction and revealed that L2 also interacts with TBX3, another member of the T-box family. Transcription of the early genes during HPV infection is under the control of an upstream enhancer and early promoter region, the long control r…

Comparison of the performance of different HPV genotyping methods for detecting genital HPV types

2008

Classification of high-risk HPV types for cervical cancer screening depends on epidemiological studies defining HPV type-specific risk. The genotyping tests that are used, are however, not uniform with regard to type-specific detection rates making comparisons between different studies difficult. To overcome the lack of a “gold standard” four tests were evaluated crosswise using 824 cervical smears pretested by HC2. The tests evaluated were the L1-PCR-based assays PGMY09/11 LBA, HPV DNA Chip and SPF LiPA and an E1 consensus PCR followed by cycle sequencing (E1-PCR). A subset of 265 samples was tested in addition with the GP5+/6+ reverse line blot assay. Differences were noted in the sensiti…

Les impacts du campagnol terrestre sur les systèmes fourragers : le cas de l’élevage bovin allaitant en Bourgogne

2014

EAAgroSupECOLDUR; Do vole outbreaks have the same effects on suckler beef farms in Burgundy as they do on daily farms in Auvergne and Franche-Comte? Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 19 farmers from Burgundy who had been affected by a water vole outbreak in 2011. The results indicate that, just like farmers in Auvergne and Franche-Comte, farmers in Burgundy witnessed a decrease in forage quantity and quality. Farmers used diverse measures to deal with the outbreak (e.g., avoidance strategies or the use of bromadiolone). Farmers that described water voles as pests were more likely to have used bromadiolone, while those who described water voles in morphological terms or in ter…
