Constructions of Agency in Accounts of Drunk Driving at the Outset of Semi-Mandatory Counseling

Convicted drunk drivers, in accounts of their offenses, rarely display qualities of agency that would contribute to a favorable outcome in counseling. Instead, the discursive and rhetorical aim of the accounts is often to evade responsibility and ownership of the offending behavior. Such disclaim of personal agency can be achieved in various ways in the narration of drunk driving (DD) incidences. This study examined how five aspects of agentic presentation (reflexivity, historicity, intentionality, causal attribution, and relationality) were present in or missing from such accounts. Constructing Nonagency at the Beginning of Psychotherapy : The 10DT model

This study examined how nine clients discursively constructed non-agency in their first session of individual psychotherapy. With open reading and linguistic analysis of the transcribed first sessions, combined with theory-based considerations, we created a model of discursive means for ascribing agentic and non-agentic positions, the 10 Discursive Tools model (10DT). There was large variability in how the tools functioned to create the impression of problematic agency, and the clients could not be classified according to their tool use patterns. Treating anxiety disorders by emotion-focused psychodynamic psychotherapy (EFPP)-An integrative, transdiagnostic approach.

Anxiety disorders are characterized by high levels of anxiety and avoidance of anxiety-inducing situations and of negative emotions such as anger. Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and psychodynamic psychotherapy (PP) have underscored the therapeutic significance of processing and transforming repressed or disowned conflicted or painful emotions. Who and how? : Preservice teachers as active agents developing professional identities

Abstract This study is part of an ongoing action research project with preservice class teachers in Finland. The study aims to better understand the forms agency takes in preservice teachers' professional identity development. Through the dialogical analysis of student assignments, this study outlines how student teachers are active within their own development and the way in which experiences are drawn on as preservice teachers exert their identity-agency. The results of this study provide a relational picture of identity development highlighting the way in which identity-agency is contextualized, potentially nourished by the relationships between self and other and dependent on experience.

Children’s beliefs about bilingualism and language use as expressed in child-adult conversations

AbstractThe aim of this article is to describe young children’s beliefs about language and bilingualism as they are expressed in verbal utterances. The data is from Swedish-medium preschool units in three different sites in Finland. It was generated through ethnographic observations and recordings of the author’s interactions with the children. The meaning constructions in the interactions were analyzed mainly by looking closely at the participants’ turn taking and conversational roles. Este trabajo propone un recorrido por tres vías que pueden identificarse en el panorama actual como reformulaciones de la autonomía liberal tradicional que intentan renovar las discusiones que tuvieron fuerza en la década del 80. Se plantean entonces en primer lugar, los rasgos comunes de estas propuestas, los puntos en los que focalizan sus críticas y su diferencia con los embates que la autonomía liberal recibió en el pasado.Luego se analizan brevemente las tres formas de reconceptualizar la autonomía: la autonomía relacional, no soberana, y las teorías que enfatizan la vulnerabilidad humana.

Viabilidad de repositorios de biomedicina y ciencias de la salud en la Comunidad Valenciana

Se estudian las condiciones de autoarchivo de 3.495 trabajos publicados en 109 revistas que recogen el 50% de la producción científica de la Comunidad Valenciana en biomedicina y ciencias de la salud difundida en las bases de datos ISI (período 2000-2004). Se analiza el autoarchivado desde la perspectiva de la viabilidad de implantación de repositorios institucionales y temáticos de acceso abierto. La información se ha obtenido de la base de datos Romeo disponible en la web Sherpa. Las condiciones de autoarchivo son favorables para la implantación de repositorios institucionales ya que el 56,8% de los trabajos sería depositable inmediatamente, cifra que ascendería al 72% al considerar los d…
