+++

The oxydoreduction potentials are determined for a number of wines of champagne before and after the second prise de mousse fermentation. Data from: Burying beetles regulate the microbiome of carcasses and use it to transmit a core microbiota to their offspring

2017

Necrophagous beetles utilize carrion, a highly nutritious resource that is susceptible to intense microbial competition, by treating it with antimicrobial anal and oral secretions. However, how this regulates the carcass microbiota remains unclear. Here, we show that carcasses prepared by the burying beetle Nicrophorus vespilloides undergo significant changes in their microbial communities subsequent to their burial and ‘preparation’. Prepared carcasses hosted a microbial community that was more similar to that of beetles’ anal and oral secretions than to the native carcass community or the surrounding soil, indicating that the beetles regulated the carcass microbiota. A core microbial comm…

An overview of organosulfur compounds from Allium spp.: From processing and preservation to evaluation of their bioavailability, antimicrobial, and a…

2019

The use of Allium species and their extracts has been known since immemorial times due to their health beneficial properties. It is known that functional properties of Allium genus come from the high content of bioactive compounds. The biological activity of Allium extracts will be conditioned by the type of Allium variety, agricultural conditions, and specific extraction process used since all these factors affect the content and the profile of bioactive compounds. Innovative extraction techniques in comparison to conventional processes could be considered as a promising tool to recover bioactive compounds from Allium spp. with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Trying to fill…

The effect of tiotropium/olodaterol versus tiotropium on COPD exacerbation rates in patients with/without frequent exacerbation history

2019

Background: Patients with COPD with a history of frequent exacerbations are at increased risk of future exacerbations. There are limited data as to whether combining LAMA/LABA reduces exacerbation risk in all patients. We investigated whether tiotropium/olodaterol (T/O) reduced exacerbation rate versus tiotropium (tio) in patients with a range of exacerbation histories. Methods: TONADO 1+2 (NCT01431274/NCT01431287) and DYNAGITO (NCT02296138) were 52-week, parallel-group, randomised, double-blind, Phase III trials in COPD patients with FEV1 Results: There was a lower rate of moderate/severe exacerbations with T/O (0.68 per patient-year) than tio (0.77 per patient-year) (rate ratio [RR] vs ti…

Surgical robotics for esophageal cancer

2018

We present an update on robotic techniques and their advantages and use in esophageal cancer surgery. Recent work has shown tremendous progress in robotic-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) and lymphadenectomy for esophageal cancer, as well as benefits of robotic surgery in high upper esophageal tumors and T4b disease. We discuss the different RAMIE techniques, especially for intrathoracic anastomosis. The ongoing ROBOT trial had demonstrated superiority of robotic esophageal cancer surgery over open esophagectomy. There are various putative technical advantages of RAMIE over minimally invasive esophagectomy, which need to be proven in future trials.

Effects of dietary dehydrated lemon peel on some biochemical markers related to general metabolism, welfare and stress in gilthead seabream (Sparus a…

2019

Dehydrated lemon peel (DLP) at two levels (1.5% and 3%) was included for 30 days in the diet of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) and after 15 and 30 days the serum and skin mucus of fish were analysed. In serum, both experimental diets led to an initial decrease in glucose and lactate after which the levels became comparable to the control. Dietary DLP modulated the activity of transaminases, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase. The total antioxidant status showed a progressive increase in relation to levels of inclusion of DLP and time of administration (p '.05). In skin mucus, some biomolecular markers related to general stress, oxidative stress and apoptosis exhib…

Peginterferon-Α_2B plus ribavirin is more effective than peginterferon-Α_2A plus ribavirin in menopausal women with chronic hepatitis C

2012

Summary.  Under-enrolment of women to randomized clinical trials, including chronic hepatitis C, has long been recognized. The aim of this study was to identify factors predictive of sustained virological response (SVR) to PEG IFN/Ribavirin antiviral therapy in relation to gender and reproductive status of female patients involved. Seven hundred and forty-six treatment-naive patients (431 men, 315 women) treated with Peg-IFNα-2a (180 μg/week) or Peg-IFNα-2b (1.5 μg/kg/week) plus ribavirin (800–1400 mg/day) for 24 or 48 weeks were studied between 2006 and 2010. Differences in SVR rate, overall and by gender were assessed after adjustment and propensity score matching. SVR was obtained in 44…

Prácticas de utilización de plaguicidas en agricultores

2002

Ultrasound-guided ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma: time for a reappraisal?

2015

Ultrasound-guided techniques play a key role in the clinical management of hepatocellular carcinoma. Among these, percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) was the first technique to be proposed for the treatment of nodular-type hepatocellular carcinoma: the role of PEI was first discussed during the European Association for the Study of the Liver conference held in Barcelona in 2000, 15 years ago. Since then, other techniques have been introduced and radiofrequency ablation now represents the most widely used percutaneous technique. PEI and radiofrequency ablation are widely used in clinical practice. However, only scant progresses in the application of these techniques have been performed over…

Effect of low-dose aspirin on health outcomes: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

2020

Aims:\ud \ud This study aimed to use an umbrella review methodology to capture the range of outcomes that were associated with low‐dose aspirin and to systematically assess the credibility of this evidence.\ud \ud Methods:\ud \ud Aspirin is associated with several health outcomes, but the overall benefit/risk balance related to aspirin use is unclear. We searched three major databases up to 15 August 2019 for meta‐analyses of observational studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including low‐dose aspirin compared to placebo or other treatments. Based on random‐effects summary effect sizes, 95% prediction intervals, heterogeneity, small‐study effects and excess significance, signifi…
