Comparative analysis of different supporting measures for the production of electrical energy by solar PV and Wind systems: Four representative Europ…
2009
Abstract In the 9th of March 2007, the European Council decided a fixing goal of 20% contribution of the renewable energy sources (RES) on the total European electric energy production in 2020. In order to reach such an ambitious goal, all the European countries are adopting different support policies for encouraging the installations of RES-based generation systems. In this paper, after a brief review on the main support policies for RES in Europe, the specific situations of four representative countries (France, Germany, Italy and Spain) are examined, with the purpose of putting into evidence the main differences in the support policies adopted for Photovoltaic (PV) and Wind systems. In p…

In silico characterization of an Iroquois family-related homeodomain protein.
2005
Homeobox genes have been demonstrated to play important roles during cancer differentiation and embryonic development. The subset of Iroquois-related homeobox genes (IRXs) have furthermore been. demonstrated to be involved in several embryonic developmental processes such as patterning of the anterior-posterior and dorso-ventral axis, as well as specific regions of the central nervous system, and differentiation of the otic vesicle, branchial epithelium, and limbs. We have characterized a novel homeodomain protein and corresponding gene by means of computational biology. Since the protein sequence displayed high similarity to the human IRX proteins, the newly identified homeodomain protein …
Structural and evolutionary analysis of the copia-like elements in the Arabidopsis thaliana genome.
2001
The analysis of 460 kb of genomic sequence of Arabidopsis thaliana chromosome III allowed us to identify two new transposable elements named AtC1 and AtC2. AtC1 shows identical long terminal repeats (LTRs) and all the structural features characteristic of the copia-like active elements. AtC2 is also a full copia-like element, but a putative stop codon in the open reading frame (ORF) would produce a truncated protein. In order to identify the copia-like fraction of the A. thaliana genome, a careful computer-based analysis of the available sequences (which correspond to 92% of the genome) was performed. Approximately 300 nonredundant copia-like sequences homologous to AtC1 and AtC2 were detec…

N-Acetilglutamato sintasa : correlaciones estructura-función
2013
Virus-Host Coevolution as a Tool for Controlling Bacterial Resistance to Phage Therapy
2019
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a global public health concern. New treatments are needed to combat resistant strains, among which phage therapy is a promising option. Probably the main advantages of phage therapy are its high specificity as well as rapid viral adaptability, which in principle allows using phage evolution to overcome resistance. Here, we have performed serial coevolution passages between Escherichia coli and its phage T7 to investigate the ability of coevolved phages to reduce the emergence of resistances. We find that the initial bacterial population is less likely to undergo resistance when challenged with experimentally coevolved phages than when challenged with t…
