Soziale Medien stellen wichtige Bühnen für zeitgenössische Konflikte um Wissen und Wahrheit dar. Der Artikel widmet sich vor diesem Hintergrund dem Gebrauch des Hashtags #selberdenken auf Twitter. Mittels einer quantitativen Datenanalyse wird zunächst die Konjunktur der Verwendung des Hashtags nachgezeichnet. Communicative Functions of Hashtags

Abstract Despite the initial function of hashtags as tools for sorting and aggregating information according to topics, the social media currently witness a diversity of uses diverging from the initial purpose. The aim of this article is to investigate the communicative functions of hashtags through a combined approach of literature review, field study and case study. Different uses of hashtags were subjected to semantic analysis in order to disclose generalizable trends. Participation in Social Media: Studying Explicit and Implicit Forms of Participation in Communicative Social Networks

The diverse forms of participation in social media raise many methodological and ethical issues that should be acknowledged in research. In this paper, participation in social media is studied by utilising the framework of explicit and implicit participation. The focus is on the communicative and communal aspects of social media. The aim of the paper is to promote the reconsideration of what constitutes participation when online users create connections rather than content. The underlying argument is that research on social media and the development of methods should concentrate more on implicit forms of participation.

Inledning: I Finland har två språk officiellt status som nationalspråk – finska och svenska. På så vis skiljer sig situationen en del från de övriga nordiska länderna. Situationen skiljer sig på flera punkter också från andra tvåspråkiga nationer (se McRae 2007 för en jämförelse mellan Belgien, Schweiz, Kanada och Finland). Andelen finländare med svenska som modersmål är drygt 5 % jämfört med 91 % som har finska som modersmål. Svenskan och finskan har dock en helt likvärdig status i lagstiftningen. Translingual quoting in journalism : behind the scenes of Swiss television newsrooms

This chapter focuses on translingual quoting (TQ), i.e. the subprocess of news-writing by which utterances from sources are both quoted and translated. Analyses of journalists’ mental and material activities suggest conceptualizing TQ as a complex and dynamic activity in which journalists’ individual and collective (e.g., institutional) language awareness, knowledge, and practices interact with multi-layered contexts of text production.
