Fondatore dell'impresa palermitana omonima, con sede in piazza San Domenico, partecipa con successo alla prima Esposizione Agricola Regionale siciliana, di Palermo del 1902, e alla seconda Esposizione Regionale Agricola di Catania del 1907. Originario di Amburgo, Ahrens, dopo avere potenziato il settore delle stoffe, cura personalmente la progettazione di mobili, avvalendosi di artisti, architetti e imprese artigiane di orientamento modernista.

25 vuoden ikään ehtinyt Aikuiskasvatus kysyi kaikilta aikuiskasvatuksen professoreiltamme heidän näkemyksiään neljässä asiassa. Kaikkiin ei tarvinnut vastata. Tällaista kysyttiin ja näin vastasivat Yrjö Engeström ja Reijo Miettinen Helsingin yliopistosta, Anneli Eteläpelto Jyväskylän yliopistosta, Jukka Tuomisto ja Juha Suoranta Tampereen yliopistosta, Risto Rinne Turun yliopistosta, Kari E. Nurmi Lapin yliopistosta sekä vt:nä virkaa hoitava Leena Ahteenmäki-Pelkonen Joensuun yliopistosta. Vastausjärjestys on arvottu.

Luonto ja eläimet Eija-Liisa Ahtilan teoksessa Tänään

Sivuttukielmassa käsitellään taiteilija Eija-Liisa Ahtilan kolmikanavaista videoinstallaatiota Tänään (1996–1997). Erityisesti pohditaan teoksesta avautuvia käsityksiä luonnosta ja eläimistä. Taustaksi tutkimukselle esitellään videoinstallaatioiden kehitystä taidemuotona 1990-luvun lopulla sekä erityisesti Eija-Liisa Ahtilan tapoja käyttää monikuvainstaalaatiota taiteensa välineenä. Myös Ahtiloan tuotannossa olennaiset käsitteet aika, paikka ja subjekti tulevat myös kytketyiksi tutkimukseen.

European legislation focusing on water quality is expected to broaden to encompass several pharmaceuticals as priority hazardous substances. This manuscript aims to challenge current regulatory approaches that do not recognize stereochemistry of chiral pharmaceuticals by testing the hypothesis that environmental transformation and effects of chiral pharmaceuticals are stereoselective. A theozyme for antibody aldolases has been studied at the MP2/6-31G** computational level. Formation of two cooperative hydrogen-bonds between the acidic hydrogen atoms of the enamine and of a methanol molecule with the oxygen atom of the aldol acceptor markedly favors the C–C bond-formation associated with the aldol reaction. A comparative analysis of the geometry, the charge distribution and the shape of the molecular electrostatic potential of the transition structure (TS) with the covalent adduct, resulting from the reaction of methylamine and the β-diketone used as a hapten allows us to characterize the transition-state analogue (TSA) generated at immunization. Przedmiotem analizy są listy czeskiego poety Jana Zahradníčka wysyłane z komunistycznego więzienia do żony Marii w latach 1951–1960. Wybór to zapis zarówno życiowej traumy wynikającej z długo letniej izolacji oraz tragedii rodzinnej (śmierć dwóch córek), a jednocześnie świadectwo tego, że dzięki terapeutycznej roli pamięci autor przetrwał ów trudny czas. Punktem wyjścia są m. in. rozważania Aleidy Assmann, które co prawda prymarnie odnosiły się do pamięci kolektywnej społeczeństw dotkniętych traumatyczną przeszłością, ale mogą być także użyteczne dla rozpatrywanego tutaj studium przypadku jednostki.
