Oxygen Transfer from Trimethylamine N ‐Oxide to Cu I Complexes Supported by Pentanitrogen Ligands
2020
[N,N-bis(1-methyl-2-benzimidazolyl)methyl-N-(bis-2-pyridylmethyl)amine] (L1) and [N,N-bis(2-quinolylmethyl)-N-bis(2-pyridyl)methylamine] (L2) were employed to prepare CuII and CuI complexes for spectroscopic and structural characterization. [L1CuII(H2O)](NO3)2 and [L2CuII(NO3)]NO3 have Jahn–Teller distorted octahedral geometries and give rise to isotropic EPR spectra in frozen solution. [L1CuI(CH3CN)]OTf and [L2CuI(CH3CN)]OTf have distorted trigonal bipyramidal and tetrahedral solid-state structures, respectively. The N-donors display labile behavior in solution, based on variable-temperature 1H NMR studies. Addition of trimethylamine N-oxide (Me3NO) to solutions of [L1CuI(CH3CN)]OTf and [L…
Cytosine Nucleobase Ligand: A Suitable Choice for Modulating Magnetic Anisotropy in Tetrahedrally Coordinated Mononuclear CoII Compounds
2017
A family of tetrahedral mononuclear CoII complexes with the cytosine nucleobase ligand is used as the playground for an in-depth study of the effects that the nature of the ligand, as well as their noninnocent distortions on the Co(II) environment, may have on the slow magnetic relaxation effects. Hence, those compounds with greater distortion from the ideal tetrahedral geometry showed a larger-magnitude axial magnetic anisotropy (D) together with a high rhombicity factor (E/D), and thus, slow magnetic relaxation effects also appear. In turn, the more symmetric compound possesses a much smaller value of the D parameter and, consequently, lacks single-ion magnet behavior.
Molecular materials based upon organic π-donors and magnetic anions
2000
Electrochemical combination of the magnetic dinuclear anion [MM'(C 2 O 4 )(NCS) 8 ] 4- (MM' = CrCr, CrFe) or paramagnetic mononuclear anion [Cr(NCS) 6 ] 3- with the ET organic π-donor (ET = BEDT-TTF = bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene) gives rise to two new series of molecular hybrid salts formulated (ET) 5 [MM'(C 2 O 4 )(NCS) 8 (MM' = CrCr (1), CrFe (2)), (ET) 8 [MM'(C 2 O 4 )(NCS) 8 ] (3), (ET) 5.5 f Cr(NCS) 6 ] (4) and (ET) 5 [(C 2 H 5 ) 4 N] [Cr(NCS) 6 ](THF) (5) (THF = tetrahydrofuran). The crystal structures consist of alternating organic and inorganic layers. The organic part does not produce any detectable effect on the magnetic properties coming from the inorganic sublattice. T…
Cadmium(ii) coordination polymers based on substituted malonic acid: synthesis, characterization and photoluminescence properties
2017
Four novel complexes of cadmium(II) with alkyl/aryl-substituted malonate ligands of formulae {[Cd(Memal)(H2O)]6·0.5H2O}n (1), [Cd(Etmal)(H2O)]n (2), [Cd(Butmal)(H2O)]n (3) and [Cd(Bzmal)(H2O)]n (4), (Memal = methylmalonate, Etmal = ethylmalonate, Butmal = butylmalonate and Bzmal = benzylmalonate) have been prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. Their luminescence, UV-Vis absorption properties and thermal behaviour were also investigated. Complex 1 is a three-dimensional compound where each metal centre is connected to four other ones leading to a sodalite network with the point symbol {42·64}. Each cadmium(II) ion in 1 is seven-coordinate with a water molecule and six …
The high-resolution far-infrared spectrum of methane at the SOLEIL synchrotron
2010
International audience; As a tetrahedral molecule, methane has no permanent dipole moment. Its spectrum, however, displays faint absorption lines in the THz region, due to centrifugal distorsion effects. This is important for planetary applications since this region is used to measure methane concentration in some planetary atmospheres, in particular on Titan. Up to now, all measurements relied either on some old low resolution infrared absorption spectra, or on high resolution Stark measurements for low J values only. Even if these results have been reexamined recently [E. H. Wishnow, G. S. Orton, I. Ozier and H. P. Gush, J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Transfer 103, 102-117 (2007)], it seeme…

Essential features of the polytypic charoite-96 structure compared to charoite-90
2011
AbstractCharoite, ideally (K,Sr,Ba,Mn)15–16(Ca,Na)32[(Si70(O,OH)180)](OH,F)4·nH20, is a rock-forming mineral from the Murun massif in Yakutia, Sakha Republic, Siberia, Russia, where it occurs in a unique alkaline intrusion. Charoite occurs as four different polytypes, which are commonly intergrown in nanocrystallme fibres. We report the structure of charoite-96(a =32.11(6),b =19.77(4),c =7.23(1) Å, β = 95.85(9)°,V =4565(24) Å3, space groupP21/m),which was solvedab initioby direct methods on the basis of 2676 unique electron diffraction reflections collected by automated diffraction tomography and refined toR1/wR2=0.34/0.37. The structure of charoite-96 is related to that of the charoite-90,…
ATR–FTIR Spectral Analysis and Soluble Components of PM10 And PM2.5 Particulate Matter over the Urban Area of Palermo (Italy) during Normal Days and …
2019
Several epidemiological studies have shown a close relationship between the mass of particulate matter (PM) and its effects on human health. This study reports the identification of inorganic and organic components by attenuated total reflectance-Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) analysis in PM10 and PM2.5 filters collected from three air quality monitoring stations in the city of Palermo (Sicily, Italy) during non-Saharan dust events and Saharan events. It also provides information on the abundance and types of water-soluble species. ATR-FTIR analysis identified sulfate, ammonium, nitrate, and carbonate matter characterized by vibrational frequencies at 603, 615, 670, and …
Activity-composition relations for the calculation of partial melting equilibria in metabasic rocks
2020
A set of thermodynamic models is presented that, for the first time, allows partial melting equilibria to be calculated for metabasic rocks. The models consist of new activity–composition relations combined with end-member thermodynamic properties from the Holland & Powell dataset, version 6. They allow for forward modelling in the system Na (Formula presented.) O–CaO–K (Formula presented.) O–FeO–MgO–Al (Formula presented.) O (Formula presented.) –SiO (Formula presented.) –H (Formula presented.) O–TiO (Formula presented.) –Fe (Formula presented.) O (Formula presented.). In particular, new activity–composition relations are presented for silicate melt of broadly trondhjemitic–tonalitic compo…
The Graham Bank (Sicily Channel, central Mediterranean Sea). Seafloor signatures of volcanic and tectonic controls
2018
Abstract Graham Bank is a dominant physiographic element of the NW Sicily Channel (central Mediterranean Sea), affected in the last 100 years by numerous well-documented volcanic eruptions. We present the first results of a geomorphological study where the Graham Bank region in the depth interval 7–350 m was mapped for the first time with multi-beam echosounder and high-resolution seismic and multi-channel seismic reflection profiles. We describe in high resolution the detailed geomorphological features of Graham Bank, and how the superficial expression of different process and dynamics occurring in the sub-seafloor evidence volcanic and tectonic controls on seafloor morphology across a rel…
