Chemical Vapor Deposition Synthesis and Terahertz Photoconductivity of Low-Band-Gap N = 9 Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons.

2017

Recent advances in bottom-up synthesis of atomically defined graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with various microstructures and properties have demonstrated their promise in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Here we synthesized N = 9 armchair graphene nanoribbons (9-AGNRs) with a low optical band gap of ∼1.0 eV and extended absorption into the infrared range by an efficient chemical vapor deposition process. Time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy was employed to characterize the photoconductivity in 9-AGNRs and revealed their high intrinsic charge-carrier mobility of approximately 350 cm2·V-1·s-1.

: The Place of the State in Africa according to the World Bank : limits of a neo-liberal policy

2005

This contribution aims to analyse the change in discourse held by the World Bank concerning the reform of the State in Africa in the educational sphere. After inspection, it emerges that despite new discourses on the "fight against poverty", the World Bank's neo-liberal policy still grants the State a minor role in the design and execution of educational policies. One would have thought of an evolution from the strict structural adjustment policies towards a policy of social adjustment where fundamental assets concerning the social field would be taken into account. That is not the case : the fight against poverty policy maintains the course of adjustment policies, by preserving a minimal s…

A gene transfer agent and a dynamic repertoire of secretion systems hold the keys to the explosive radiation of the emerging pathogen Bartonella

2013

Gene transfer agents (GTAs) randomly transfer short fragments of a bacterial genome. A novel putative GTA was recently discovered in the mouse-infecting bacterium Bartonella grahamii. Although GTAs are widespread in phylogenetically diverse bacteria, their role in evolution is largely unknown. Here, we present a comparative analysis of 16 Bartonella genomes ranging from 1.4 to 2.6 Mb in size, including six novel genomes from Bartonella isolated from a cow, two moose, two dogs, and a kangaroo. A phylogenetic tree inferred from 428 orthologous core genes indicates that the deadly human pathogen B. bacilliformis is related to the ruminant-adapted clade, rather than being the earliest diverging…

Cation Environment in BaCeO3-Based Protonic Conductors: a Computational Study

2009

Geometry calculations were performed on pure BaCeO(3) fragments and on Y- and In-doped derivatives. HF and DFT approaches were used to investigate monoclinic and orthorhombic structures. The computational methods, structural models, and electronic structure investigation protocols were tuned taking into consideration and balancing the consistency of the results against the computational cost. The calculated structures and energetics parameter, as well as the detailed orbital analysis performed on the corresponding BaCeO(3) derivatives allowed us to explain experimental findings and to develop a procedure to study the cationic octahedral environment of doped X:BaCeO(3) (X = Y, In) and undope…

A Novel Energy Harvester for Powering Small UAVs: Performance Analysis, Model Validation and Flight Results

2019

The proposed work aims at exploring and developing new strategies to extend mission parameters (measured as travel distance and mission duration (MD)) of a new class of unmanned vehicles, named Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs). In this paper, a new analytical model, identifying all factors, which determine the MAV power consumption, is presented. Starting from the new model, the design of a nanoarray energy harvester, based on plasmonics nano-antenna technology is proposed. The preliminary study was based on a 22,066,058 22,066,058 &times

Autonomous Operation of Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems—Optimal Storage Design and Economic Potential

2021

Global warming requires a changeover from fossil fuel based to renewable energy sources on the electrical supply side and electrification of the demand side. Due to the transient nature of renewables and fluctuating demand, buffer capacities are necessary to compensate for supply/demand imbalances. Battery energy storage systems are promising. However, the initial costs are high. Repurposing electric vehicle batteries can reduce initial costs. Further, storage design optimization could significantly improve costs. Therefore, a battery control algorithm was developed, and a simulation study was performed to identify the optimal storage design and its economic potential. The algorithm used is…

Krytyka wybranych aspektów chrystologii świadków Jehowy w świetle książki Josepfa Ratzingera: Jezus z Nazaretu, cz. I: Od chrztu w Jordanie do Przemi…

2018

Pytanie Chrystusa zawarte we wszystkich ewangeliach synoptycznych: za kogo uważają Go ludzie i kim On jest dla apostołów, wydaje się być wciąż aktualne. I: Od chrztu w Jordanie do Przemienienia. Powyższe zestawienie wykazało, jak liczne i poważne są rozbieżności w postrzeganiu Jezusa przez organizację oraz Jego przedstawieniu w Biblii. Fakty te przemawiają za konieczno…
