Behind the scenes of artificial intelligence: a study of micro-work platforms in France
2019
This article is a summarized version of the report "Le Micro-travail en France. .; International audience; Micro-work internet services allocate small, standardized tasks of data generation and annotation to crowds of providers. Alkuvaiheen S2-oppijoiden käsityksiä puheen ymmärtämisen vaikeuksista ja kompensaatiostrategioista
2015
This article examines adult L2 Finnish learners’ perceptions of listening difficulties and compensatory strategies in everyday situations. The data consist of questionnaire answers (N = 202) and five semi-structured interviews. The answers were grouped according to the reasons why listening difficulties were experienced. The number of times each reason was mentioned was calculated in order to find out to what extent the reasons were shared by the group. The interviews were used as a complementary resource for analysing the questionnaire answers. The results suggest that listening difficulties were most commonly attributed to speech rate, colloquial language and unfamiliar words, and it is a…
Effects of training background to acute psychological stress biomarkers
2016
2017

What contexts are favorable for the adoption of the contract teacher policy ?
2010
Education systems in Francophone African countries are undergoing major reforms, consequence of the international commitment to achieve Universal Primary Education (UPE) by 2015. Teachers' recruitment is among the most important reforms for at least two reasons: first, various researches presented it as necessary otherwise UPE will not be achieved; second, the alternative policy proposed is unpopular as new teachers are recruited with lower qualification, receive lower salaries and have a less secure job position. Yet, some governments have succeeded in changing their teacher recruitment scheme and others have not. Conditions allowing a government to make the reform are still uninvestigated…
Enabling and constraining family: young women building their educational paths in Tanzania

Official Development Assistance in fragile states: an unresolved issue - Focus on education
2013
Since the mid 2000s, the theme of "fragile states" became a structuring axis of development policies of most donors. Insofar as investment in education is perceived as a necessary, if not sufficient, to vanquish poverty, the option to stimulate and accelerate the development of education constitutes an opportunity for the international community. Even if it means that the latter also has to exercise some forms of interference. The findings of our empirical analysis show, that within fragile states, the emergence of a current contradiction between the inclusive nature of the EFA goals and the exclusionary nature of the paradigms on which foreign aid is based (effectiveness and results). This…
International aid on education in fragile states and armed conflict: what prospects?
2013
Currently, over a third of children not in school live in countries considered being as fragile or affected by an armed conflict. These countries, which are mainly located in sub-Saharan Africa, will not reach the objectives of Education For All for 2015. This paper covers approaches across comparative education, political science and sociology of organizations. The question is: what prospects for international assistance on education in fragile states and countries affected by armed conflict? Our study explores empirically the conditions of intervention of international aid within the contexts of fragility and armed conflict. Insofar as investment in education is perceived as a necessary, …
