Plasticizer extraction of Taxol infusion solution from various infusion devices.

Taxol solution extracts the plasticizer DEHP (di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate) from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials. In order to minimize patient exposure to DEHP, Taxol solutions should be prepared and administered in PVC-free materials. Particulate matter may form in Taxol infusion solution over time, so that in-line filtration with microporous membranes not greater than 0.22 microns is advisable. Abstract Alaria alata trematode is widely distributed throughout Europe and has a complex life cycle in which wild boar serve as a reservoir host. The primary aims of the present study are to establish the occurrence of A. alata mesocercariae in naturally infected wild boar in Latvia and to assess the risk for humans to acquire A. alata infection via consumption of wild boar meat. This dissertation consists of nine empirical studies which seek to broaden understanding of Finnish regional economic structures. These studies are divided between two topics: 1) regional specialization and industrial concentration in Finland, and 2) regional economic impact analysis. The empirical studies are preceded by an introduction, in which the theoretical background, outline and the main results of the thesis are presented. The research on the first topic is guided by the new economic geography literature, from which answers are sought to the location and agglomeration questions addressed in this dissertation. Behavioral data are notable for presenting challenges to their statistical analysis, often due to the difficulties in measuring behavior on a quantitative scale. Instead, a range of qualitative alternative responses is recorded. These can often be understood as the outcome of a sequence of binary decisions. For example, faced by a predator, an individual may decide to flee or stay. If it stays, it may decide to freeze or display a threat and if it displays a threat, it may choose from several alternative forms of display.
