Course Satisfaction in Engineering Education Through the Lens of Student Agency Analytics
2020
This Research Full Paper presents an examination of the relationships between course satisfaction and student agency resources in engineering education. Satisfaction experienced in learning is known to benefit the students in many ways. However, the varying significance of the different factors of course satisfaction is not entirely clear. We used a validated questionnaire instrument, exploratory statistics, and supervised machine learning to examine how the different factors of student agency affect course satisfaction among engineering students (N = 293). Teacher’s support and trust for the teacher were identified as both important and critical factors concerning experienced course satisf…
Are benzodiazepines and opioids really safe in patients with severe COPD?
2015
Breathlessness is a key symptom in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with prognostic implications on health status and survival. Since most conditions underlying chronic refractory breathlessness in COPD are not modifiable, the use of opioids and benzodiazepines has been proposed to relieve it. However, respiratory depression is a known adverse event of these drugs, and concerns have been raised on their use in patients with chronic respiratory failure. Despite safety-related concerns, benzodiazepines are frequently prescribed for a variety of reasons, including treatment of insomnia, depression and anxiety, as well as to relieve refractory dyspnea in patients with COPD. The key …
Painful oral aphthous-like lesions in patient with kidney cancer after target therapy and bisphosphonate administration: a case report of adverse dru…
2015
Aim. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting tu- mor angiogenesis and mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors (mTOR) are indicated for the management of several cancer types, as for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Oral ulcerations are reported as common adverse drug reactions of mTOR inhibitors and are currently classified as mTOR inhibitor associated stomatitis (mIAS). Interestingly, these lesions appear as aphthous-like stoma- titis rather than the mucositis seen with chemotherapy agent. Case report. A 49 years old male patient underwent to the left radical nephrectomy in May 2014 for clear RCC. From July to October 2014 he was treated with Pazopanib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. In Dece…
Kokemuksia mielisairaalasta : muistoihin kaivertuneet tilat
2022
Study of oral microbiota and diet as casual factors of Black Stains in the pediatric patient
2019
The aim of the following study is to identify and quantify microorganisms in the saliva of black stain patients using species-specific probes for Actinomyces israelii, Actinomyces naeslundii, Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus spp, as well as a universal probe for bacterial 16S rDNA, to obtain the figure of the total bacterial counts (for test and control group). This study represents a first phase of the research line on extrinsic tooth pigmentation on developmental age patients. Materials and methods. The selected sample is composed of 20 subjects aged between 2 and 15 years and in good general and oral health among the patients included in a dental examination trial at the Department…
PRELIMINARY ANALYSES FROM A HOSPITAL BASED STUDY ON 3154 WESTERN SICILIAN PATIENTS WITH ORAL MUCOSAL LESIONS
2010
Objectives: Diagnosis of the wide variety of lesions that occur in the oral cavity is an essential part of dental practice. The objective of this study was to explore the demographic and behavioural profiles of patients affected by oral cavity diseases on a wide spectrum. Methods: Demographic and behavioural data of 3154 patients with at least one oral cavity disease among those consecutively visited between 2004 and 2009 at the Unit of Oral Medicine, were recorded: gender, age, smoking status, alcohol consumption, drugs use. Analysis was restricted to the eleven more frequent oral cavity diseases. Firstly, Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) was applied as a descriptive tool to geometri…
Long-standing oral ulcers: proposal for a new 'S-C-D classification system': Authors' reply

The 10 articles in the issue not only focus on the new professional roles and responsibilities emerging in the news media industry but also study the practices of media work in organizations in other fields, such as the music industry …
Epidemiology, clinical manifestations, risk-reduction and treatment strategies of jaw osteonecrosis in cancer patients exposed to antiresorptive agen…
2014
Osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ) is an adverse side event of bisphosphonates and denosumab, antiresorptive agents that effectively reduce the incidence of skeletal-related events in patients with metastatic bone cancer and multiple myeloma. Available data suggest that 0–27.5% of individuals exposed to antiresorptive agents can develop ONJ. There is increasing evidence that avoidance of surgical trauma and infection to the jawbones can minimize the risk of ONJ, but there are still a significant number of individuals who develop ONJ in the absence of these risk factors. Bone necrosis is almost irreversible and there is no definitive cure for ONJ with the exclusion, in certain cases, of surgica…
