ChemInform Abstract: New Studies and a Reinvestigation on (4 + 2) Cycloadditions of (-)- Thebaine: Asymmetrical Diels-Alder Reactions with a Conforma…

2010

Some novel Diels-Alder reactions of the opium alkaloid (−)-thebaine (1) as an electron-rich diene and a reinvestigation of its reactions with cyclic and acyclic dienophiles are described. The π-facial selectivity has been studied on the basis of structural analyses of the cycloadducts. Some related results on [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions of 1-methoxy-1,3-cyclohexadiene (11) are also reported.

ChemInform Abstract: Highly Enantioselective Copper(I)-Catalyzed Conjugate Addition of Terminal Alkynes to 1,1-Difluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-en-2-one…

2014

A highly enantioselective copper-catalyzed conjugate alkynylation of monoactivated enones, namely 1,1-difluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-en-2-ones, is described. The reaction products are obtained with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities (from 92 to 99% ee). The β-alkynylated difluoro(phenylsulfonyl) ketones can be converted into the corresponding β-alkynylated difluoro- and trifluoromethyl ketones, esters and amides. This is the first example on the use of 1,1-difluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-en-2-ones as substrates in an enantioselective reaction, which have been shown to be new ester/amide surrogates.

ChemInform Abstract: Enantioselective Zirconium-Catalyzed Friedel-Crafts Alkylation of Pyrrole with Trifluoromethyl Ketones.

2009

The first catalytic enantioselective Friedel−Crafts alkylation of pyrrole with 2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenones to give pyrroles with a trifluoromethyl-substituted tertiary alcohol moiety bearing a quaternary stereogenic center is described. The reaction is achieved in the presence of a 3,3′-dibromo-BINOL-Zr(IV) complex to give the expected products with high yields (up to 98%) and good enantioselectivities (up to 93% ee). The absolute stereochemistry of the products has been determined by chemical correlation.

The initial stages of the heterogeneous degradation of alkali cellulose by oxygen in relation to the morphology of native cotton cellulose

2007

Treatment of cotton cellulose with sodium hydroxide solutions of varying concentration over extended periods in the absence of oxygen markedly decreases the intrinsic viscosity of both the cellulose in cuoxam and its cellulose trinitrate derivative (CTN) in acetone. Light-scattering measurements show that the molecular weight does not change while the radius of gyration decreases and the second virial coefficient increases. The narrow molecular weight distribution of the native cotton is still maintained. Mild oxidation first causes the intrinsic viscosity to increase. At more prolonged oxidation times the viscosity decreases. These results are interpreted by an intramolecular cross-linking…

ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of Highly Substituted Hexahelicenes

2014

C2-Symmetric hexahelicenes 3a–3g, which bear four or six alkoxy chains, were prepared in eight-to-nine reaction steps in high overall yields. The final step consisted of a twofold oxidative photocyclization of the corresponding 2,7-bis(2-phenylethenyl)naphthalenes. Long (and branched) chains provide a good solubility and processability, which is a prerequisite for applications in organic synthesis and materials science.

Revision of Na 2 A1Σ+u state molecular constants by polarization labeling spectroscopy

1997

ABSTRACT. This paper contains the analysis of the A1 of Na2 based on the data obtained from thepolarization labeling spectroscopy experiment on the A' —X' transition. A set of Dunham coefficients is derived, which describes the A state in the wide range of v and J 126) quantum numbers and reproduces the positions of unperturbed rotational lines in the A-X band system towithinO.1 cm'.1. INTRODUCTION.We report' new analysis of the A' state based on the data obtained from polarization labelingspectroscopy (PLS) experiment"2, based on V-type optical—optical double resonance scheme, on the 1 : ' ; band system of sodium dimer. The diatomic alkali molecules, with their simple electronic configurat…

Dimethoxy Aromatic Compounds. VIII. Degenerate Dealkylation-Realkylation Reaction of 1-Bis(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropane.

1994

The condensation reaction under acid condition of the benzylic alcohols 1, 2 and 3 with the hexadeutero dimethoxybenzenes 4, 5 and 6 leads to the expected hexadeutero bis(dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropanes 7, 8 and 9, respectively. However, the presence of both dodecadeutero and unlabelled 1-bis(2, 4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropanes 10 and 11 indicates that 9 undergoes a rapid degenerate dealkylation-alkylation reaction.
