A combined experimental and theoretical study of the alkylation of 3,5-dithioxo-[1,2,4]triazepines

The chemo- and regioselective alkylation reactions of 3,5-dithioxo[1,2,4]triazepine 1 in a basic medium with α,ω-dibromoalkanes 2a–c, Br(CH2)nBr (n = 1–3), are studied experimentally and theoretically. These alkylations, which occur at the thioxo sulfur atom in position 5, afford mainly 5-bromomethylthio-2,7-dimethyl- 2,3-dihydro- 4H[1,2,4]triazepin-3-one 3 for n = 1, 6,8-dimethyl-5-thioxo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-6H[1,3]thiazolo[4,5-d][1,2,4]triazepine 4 for n = 2 and 7,9-dimethyl-6-thioxo-2,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydro[1,3]thiazino [4,5-d][1,2,4]triazepine 5 for n = 3. Alkylation of DNA is viewed as representing the initial critical step in carcinogenesis induced by chemical substances. Vinyl chloride and vinyl bromide, compounds with proven carcinogenic potency toward the liver, are biotransformed to reactive metabolites which covalently bind to DNA (see Bolt et al. 1980). Furthermore, extensive covalent binding of metabolites of both vinyl chloride (Laib and Bolt 1977, 1978) and vinyl bromide (Ottenwalder et al. 1979) occurs to RNA of liver when rats are exposed to both vinyl halides. Selective Gold Recovery and Catalysis in a Highly Flexible Methionine-Decorated Metal–Organic Framework

A novel chiral 3D bioMOF exhibiting functional channels with thio-alkyl chains derived from the natural amino acid l-methionine (1) has been rationally prepared. The well-known strong affinity of gold for sulfur derivatives, together with the extremely high flexibility of the thioether "arms" decorating the channels, account for a selective capture of gold(III) and gold(I) salts in the presence of other metal cations typically found in electronic wastes. Synthesis, crystallographic and electrochemical study of ethynyl[2.2]paracyclophane derived cobalt metallatetrahedranes

Abstract A series of alkynyl cobalt complexes [Co2(μ-η2-HCC–PCP)(CO)6−nLn] [n = 0 (2); n = 2, L2 = dppa (3), dppm (4), dcpm (6), 2 P(OPh)3 (7)] and [Co2(CO)4L2]2(μ-η2:μ-η2-HCC–PCP–CCH)] (L2 = dppm (8), dcpm (9); (PCP = [2.2]paracyclophane) has been prepared and characterized. The molecular structures of 3 and 4, as well as that of [Co2(CO)4(μ-CO)2(μ2-dcpm)] (5), have been determined by X-ray diffraction. DELAYED ELECTRON EMISSION OF NEGATIVELY CHARGED TUNGSTEN CLUSTERS

The delayed electron emission of negatively charged tungsten clusters has been investigated on a time scale from 1 to 500 ms. After being stored in a Penning trap clusters ions [Formula: see text] were heated via multiphoton absorption (hν=1.81 eV). In contrast to alkali and coinage metals no photofragmentation could be detected. Instead, for all cluster sizes studied so far only a decrease in the initial ion intensity as a function of time after excitation was observed. This decrease is not caused by ion loss from the trap, but has to be attributed to neutralization via delayed electron emission. Electrochemical monitoring of the oxidative coupling of alkynes in the homogeneous phase through catalytic cycles involving triphenylphosphine gold complexes and selectfluor as oxidant reveals that at least two gold species in +3 and +1 oxidation states are implicated. Electrochemically driven homocoupling of terminal alkynes using molecular oxygen as the oxidant can be performed using such catalysts.
