Mental Skills of an Athlete as a Resource of Professional Longevity in Sport

The aim of the study was to assess associations between dimensions of mental skills, psychological readiness and predictors of career longevity among current athletes. Mental skills dimensions were measured with the Ottawa Mental Skills Assessment Tool (OMSAT). The psychological predictors of athletic career longevity were measured with the Athletic Coping Skills Scale-28 (the ACSI-28) producing scores for seven coping skills and with the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2) which produced scores for confidence in competition. Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier 1790) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), phytophagus of palms, has been used as a model to deepen the knowledge of the host-entomopathogen relationship. The effects of Steinernema carpocapsae (Nematoda: Steinernematidae) on the growth and immunoactivity of R. ferrugineus larvae were compared with another model insect Galleria mellonella L. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). Although S. carpocapsae had a negative effect on the weight and mortality of R. ferrugineus, it was not able to replicate in the hemolymph with the same rates found for the moth. The Aizerman and Kalman conjectures played an important role in the theory of global stability for control systems and set two directions for its further development – the search and formulation of sufficient stability conditions, as well as the construction of counterexamples for these conjectures. From the computational perspective the latter problem is nontrivial, since the oscillations in counterexamples are hidden, i.e. their basin of attraction does not intersect with a small neighborhood of an equilibrium.
