High-Resolution Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy and Analysis of the ν1 Stretching Band of GeD4

2007

The high-resolution stimulated Raman spectrum of the ν1 band of GeD4 with natural isotopic abundance germanium has been recorded. It has been analyzed as part of the ν1/ν3 stretching dyad. The ν1 and ν3 band centers have been deduced for all the isotopologues. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

This work investigates the evolution of the molecular, vibrational, and optical properties within a family of carbonyl-functionalized quaterthiophenes: 5,5'''-diheptanoyl-2,2':5',2'':5'',2'''-quaterthiophene (1), 5,5'''-diperfluorohexylcarbonyl-2,2':5',2'':5'',2'''-quaterthiophene (2), and 2,7-[bis(5-perfluorohexylcarbonylthien-2-yl)]-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']-dithiophene-4-one (3). Multiple vibrational resonances in the Raman spectra of liquid ethanes

The Raman spectra of liquid ethane, ethane-d3 and ethane-d6 were recorded and analysed. The CH3 and CD3 stretching regions were computer resolved using Cauchy-Gaussian and Voigt functions to account for asymmetric band shapes. Multiple vibrational resonances were investigated using the wavenumbers and observed intensities in these regions. The developed basis functions show strong mixing of the levels in these regions. In general the resonances appear to be less strong in the liquid phase than reported in previous studies of the gaseous state. Some new assignments in the liquid-state spectra of ethanes could be suggested.

Laser control in open molecular systems: STIRAP and Optimal Control

We examine the effect of dissipation on the laser control of a process that transforms a state into a superposed state. We consider a two-dimensional double well of a single potential energy surface. In the context of reactivity, the objective of the control is the localization in a given well, for instance the creation of an enantiomeric form whereas for quantum gates, this control corresponds to one of the transformation of the Hadamard gate. The environment is either modelled by coupling few harmonic oscillators (up to five) to the system or by an effective interaction with an Ohmic bath. Inelastic neutron scattering study of proton dynamics in Ca(OH)2 at 20 K

Abstract Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) spectra of Ca(OH) 2 at 20 K are presented from 30 to 4000 cm −1 for a powder sample, from 30 to 12000 cm −1 for an oriented single-crystal. INS band splitting due to the lattice density-of-states is observed. Polarization effects reveal the orientation of atomic displacements for each mode and a new band assignment scheme is proposed. For the single-crystal, the v OH mode and overtones are observed. This oscillator shows only moderate anharmonicity. Spectrum simulation reveals that INS spectral intensities are not consistent with simple normal coordinates and harmonic force-fields for Ca(OH) 2 entities. The Taming of Redox‐Labile Phosphidotitanocene Cations

International audience; Tame d0 phosphidotitanocene cations stabilized with a pendant tertiary phosphane arm are reported. These compounds were obtained by one-electron oxidation of d1 precursors with [Cp2Fe][BPh4]. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied experimentally (EPR, UV/Vis, and NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis) and through DFT calculations. The theoretical analysis of the bonding situation by using the electron localization function (ELF) shows the presence of π-interactions between the phosphido ligand and Ti in the d0 complexes, whereas dπ–pπ repulsion prevents such interactions in the d1 complexes. Switching and redox isomerism in first-row transition metal complexes containing redox active Schiff base ligands.

International audience; The reversible redox isomerisms in first row transition metal complexes of the type ML2 were studied. The six ML2 complexes (M = Mn(III) (), Fe(II) (), Co(III) (), Ni(II) (), Cu(II) () and Zn(II) ()) were synthesized with a redox active Schiff base ligand [2-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenylamino)-4-chlorophenol] (H3L) presenting different oxidation states from -2 to 0 (L(2-), L(-) and L(0)). An aryl-fused redox-active tetrathiafulvalene with enhanced mixed-valence and radical-cation dimer stabilities.

Molecular recognition of stable organic radicals is a relatively novel, but important structural binding motif in supramolecular chemistry. Here, we report on a redox-switchable veratrole-fused tetrathiafulvalene derivative VTTF which is ideally suited for this purpose and for the incorporation into stimuli-responsive systems. As revealed by electrochemistry, UV/Vis measurements, X-ray analysis, and electrocrystallisation, VTTF can be reversibly oxidised to the corresponding radical-cation or dication which shows optoelectronic and structural propterties similar to tetrathiafulvalene and tetrakis(methylthio)tetrathiafulvalene. The reaction of [Ni(COD) 2 ] with [Cp* 2 NbTe 2 H] (1; Cp * = η-C 5 Me 5 ) in the presence of Ph 2 PCH 2 PPh 2 (dppm) in boiling toluene gives black-violet [(Cp * 2 Nb) 2 NiTe 4 ] (3). If [Cp' 2 NbTe 2 H] (2; Cp' = tBuC 5 H 4 ) is used under similar conditions dark-brown [(Cp'Nb)2Ni5Te7(dppm)2] (4) is formed. The structures of 3 and 4 have been determined crystallographically. Complex 3 contains a severely distorted NiTe 4 tetrahedron to which two niobocene groups are coordinated. Density functional analysis of the electronic structure of the NiTe 4 building block shows that it is best described as an [Ni(η 2 -Te 2 ) 2 ] 2- fragment.
