Nosaukums: Izpildvaras politisko amatpersonu un pārvaldes amatpersonu sadarbība Latvijā kopš 2010. gada. Pētījuma problēma: nav izvērtēta izpildvaras politisko amatpersonu un pārvaldes amatpersonu sadarbība Latvijā kopš 2010. gada un tā atbilstība teorētiskajiem modeļiem. Mērķis: izvērtēt to, kuram teorētiskajam modelim atbilst sadarbība starp abām pusēm. Teorētiskajā daļā: ir iekļauta informācija no akadēmiskās literatūras par pārvaldes amatpersonu un politisko amatpersonu funkcijām un sadarbības modeļiem. Izmantotās metodes: dokumentu analīze, padziļinātas intervijas. Rezultāti: Sadarbība starp pārvaldes amatpersonām un politiskajām amatpersonām Latvijā atbilst sadalīto pienākumu modelim.

Inhibition of Rac1 signaling by lovastatin protects against anthracycline-induced cardiac toxicity

Normal tissue damage limits the efficacy of anticancer therapy. For anthracyclines, the clinically most relevant adverse effect is cardiotoxicity. The mechanisms involved are poorly understood and putative cardioprotectants are controversially discussed. Here, we show that the lipid-lowering drug lovastatin protects rat H9c2 cardiomyoblasts from doxorubicin in vitro. Protection by lovastatin is related to inhibition of the Ras-homologous GTPase Rac1. It rests on a reduced formation of DNA double-strand breaks, resulting from the inhibition of topoisomerase II by doxorubicin. Doxorubicin transport and reactive oxygen species are not involved. To investigate the potency of the topoisomerase II (topo II) poisons doxorubicin and etoposide to stimulate the DNA damage response (DDR), S139 phosphorylation of histone H2AX (γH2AX) was analyzed using rat cardiomyoblast cells (H9c2). Etoposide caused a dose-dependent increase in the γH2AX level as shown by Western blotting. By contrast, the doxorubicin response was bell-shaped with high doses failing to increase H2AX phosphorylation. Identical results were obtained by immunohistochemical analysis of γH2AX focus formation, comet assay-based DNA strand break analysis, and measuring the formation of the topo II-DNA cleavable complex. Ensimmäinen moderni terroristinen itsemurhaisku tapahtui Libanonissa vuonna 1981. Iskua seuranneina vuosikymmeninä itsemurhaiskut ovat levinneet lukuisten eri terroristijärjestöjen käyttöön useille eri maantieteellisille alueille. Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa keskityn itsemurhaiskuihin ja tämän iskutaktiikan leviämiseen eri terroristiryhmien välillä. Tutkimus kartoittaa samalla eri terroristiryhmien välisiä verkostoja. Tutkimuksen tapausesimerkeiksi valikoitui kolme terroristijärjestöä: libanonilainen Hizbollah, srilankalainen Tamilitiikerit sekä palestiinalaisjärjestöt Hamas ja Palestiinan islamilainen jihad. Voices from the past: memory and desire in Marina Warner’s radio play Brigit’s Cell

This article examines Marina Warner’s radio play Birgitta’s Cell (BBC Radio 4), later published as Brigit’s Cell (2010) focusing on the themes of memory and desire. By drawing on Jan Assman’s theories on collective memory, the article shows how the two time levels Warner builds in the radio drama succeed in creating a fresh connection between women in the past and in the present as well as between individual and collective experience. The analysis of Warner’s work focuses on the dramatization of the story, taking into account the results offered by the use of the spoken word, fragments of dialogues, interior monologues, silences, enhanced, by its initial destination for the radio.
Finland’s great depression of the 1990s: Lessons about financial reform based on econometric macro evidence

The paper re‐examines the Finnish Great Depression of the 1990s, based on an open macro model, with specific dummy variables to identify the initial effects of liberalized financial markets and capital mobility, and of the Russian trade collapse. It is shown that the explosive credit expansion resulting from the simultaneous liberalization of the financial markets and international capital movements in 1986 has played the most important role in explaining the uncontrolled growth and the subsequent depression in 1989 in real economic activity in Finland. Tässä tutkielmassa tutkin keskisuomalaisen Kinnulan kunnan kirkonkylän rakennetun kulttuuriympäristön muutosta 1900-luvun alkuvuosikymmeniltä tutkimuksen tekoajankohtaan asti. Tärkeimmät tutkimuskysymykset työssäni olivat, minkälainen Kinnulan kirkonkylä oli 1900-luvun alussa, ja miten muutosprosessi kylään vaikutti. Pyrin tutkielmassani analysoimaan vertaillen 1900-luvun alun ja nykyhetken kirkonkylän maisemaa ja kinnulalaista rakennusperintöä. Käsittelen teemoittain asumisen, liike-elämän, teollisuuden, vapaa-ajan sekä kunnallisen ja kirkollisen elämän ympäristöjä sekä niihin kohdistuneita muutoksia.
