Influence of therapeutic and toxic doses of neuroleptics and antidepressants on energy metabolism of the isolated perfused rat brain.
1973
The isolated perfused rat brain was used for a comparative study of the effects of promazine, imipramine, monodesmethyl promazine and desipramine on cerebral energy metabolism. After perfusion for 30 min or 1 h the brain levels of the following substrates and metabolites were estimated: P-creatine, creatine, ATP, ADP, AMP, glycogen, glucose, glucose-6-P, fructose diphosphate, dihydroxyacetone-P, pyruvate, lactate, α-ketoglutarate, and ammonia. Drug concentrations of 5·10−6 M and 10−5 M in the perfusion medium caused a significant decrease of glucose-6-P alone. When the drug concentration was raised to a toxic range (10−4 M), reflected in the EEG by the pattern of secondary discharges, an ac…
Acute ammonia intoxication induces an NMDA receptor-mediated increase in poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase level and NAD+ metabolism in nuclei of rat brain…
2004
Acute ammonia toxicity is mediated by excessive activation of NMDA receptors. Activation of NMDA receptors leads to activation of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) which mediates NMDA excitotoxicity. PARP is activated following DNA damage and may lead to cell death via NAD+ and ATP depletion. The aim of the present work was to assess whether acute ammonia intoxication in vivo leads to increased PARP in brain cells nuclei and to altered NAD+ and superoxide metabolism and the contribution of NMDA receptors to these alterations. Acute ammonia intoxication increases PARP content twofold in brain cells nuclei.NAD+ content decreased by 55% in rats injected with ammonia. This was not due to decre…
Development of gas sensors by microwave transduction with phthalocyanine film
2012
International audience; This work presents a new transduction mode for gas sensing using a passive microwave circuit at room temperature. The design of the sensor includes a microstrip line where is deposited a thin molecular layer of cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc). The material is sensitive to ammonia and toluene. Submitted to an electromagnetic incident wave in the microwave range, the sensor response is a reflected wave. In the presence of ammonia, the reflected wave is specific to the species concentration. The sensor response is the reflected wave over the incident wave ratio at each frequency traduced by the reflected coefficient. The study deals with the influence of molecular sensitiv…
Metal-organic framework-activated carbon composite materials for the removal of ammonia from contaminated airstreams
2019
L.N.M and R.E.M wish to acknowledge the financial support from the EPSRC industrial CASE award (grant EP/N50936X/1). A.T and G.B would like to thank the financial support from the Fondo per il finanziamento delle attività base di ricerca (grant PJ-RIC-FFABR_2017). Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous materials that show promise in the removal of Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) from contaminated airstreams, though their development for this application has so far been hindered by issues of water stability and the wide availability and low cost of traditionally used activated carbons. Here a series of three MOF-activated carbon composite materials with different MOF to carb…
The Hydrogen‐Storage Challenge: Nanoparticles for Metal‐Catalyzed Ammonia Borane Dehydrogenation
2021
International audience; Dihydrogen is one of the sustainable energy vectors envisioned for the future. However, the rapidly reversible and secure storage of large quantities of hydrogen is still a technological and scientific challenge. In this context, this review proposes a recent state-of-the-art on H 2 production capacities from the dehydrogenation reaction of ammonia borane (and selected related amine-boranes) as a safer solid-source of H 2 by hydrolysis (or solvolysis), according to the different developed nanoparticle-based catalysts. The review groups the results according to the transition metals constituting the catalyst according a special view to current cost/availability consid…
Performance Analysis of Ammonia in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells
2021
The transition of the marine propulsion system towards alternative fuels is mandatory to offset carbon emission. Among the alternative fuels, ammonia is carbon-free and can be produced in sustainable ways. Ammonia has 17.8% hydrogen (wt %) and is easily liquified at 25°C and 8 bar pressure. The two-stroke internal combustion engines currently used in the marine sector reach efficiencies of about 50% but generate substantial polluting emissions. Solid oxide fuel cells generate electricity with efficiencies greater than 50 % and can use ammonia as fuel. In this work, a single-cell SOFC was characterised using in-situ ammonia decomposition reaction (Int-ADR) and compared with ex-situ ammonia …
Modulation of the organic heterojunction behavior, from electrografting to enhanced sensing properties
2019
International audience; The energy barrier of an organic heterojunction built on ITO electrodes and made from a low conductive sublayer (Cu(F16Pc)) covered by a highly conductive semiconductor (LuPc2) is modulated by electrografting of organic layers before depositing the sublayer. Impedance spectroscopy clearly demonstrates the increase of the energy barrier at the ITO – sublayer interface. Additionally, the electrografting is a versatile and promising method for the tuning of heterojunctions. The I(V) characteristics of the heterojunctions are highly modified by the electrografting. The same electromodifications of electrodes carried out on LuPc2 resistors lead to a modification of their …

From the solution processing of hydrophilic molecules to polymer-phthalocyanine hybrid materials for ammonia sensing in high humidity atmospheres.
2014
We have prepared different hybrid polymer-phthalocyanine materials by solution processing, starting from two sulfonated phthalocyanines, s-CoPc and CuTsPc, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylene glycol (PEG), poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) (PAA-AM), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and polyaniline (PANI) as polymers. We also studied the response to ammonia (NH3) of resistors prepared from these sensing materials. The solvent casted films, prepared from s-CoPc and PVP, PEG and PAA-AM, were highly insulating and very sensitive to the relative humidity (RH) variation. The incorporation of s-CoPc in PDDA by means of layer-by-layer (LBL) technique allowed to stabilize the fi…
Solid proton conductors as room-temperature gas sensors
1993
Ammonia-exchanged ceramic samples of beta alumina have been obtained from plasma-dispersed powders. The ionic conductivity is slightly affected by ion exchange, but the surface conductivity for the amonia-exchanged sample drastically changes in the presence of the water and ammonia vapours. The ammonia-doped xerogel of antimonic acid hydrate in the form of a thick film has been tested as a potentiometric ammonia sensor.
