Low Conductive Electrodeposited Poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) as a Key Material in a Double Lateral Heterojunction, for Sub-ppm Ammonia Sensing in Humid…

2019

We present a new device called a double lateral heterojunction (DLH) as an ammonia sensor in humid atmosphere. It combines polyaniline derivatives in their poor conducting state with a highly conductive molecular material, lutetium bisphthalocyanine, LuPc2. Polyaniline and poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) are electrodeposited on ITO interdigitated electrodes, leading to an original device that can be obtained only by electrochemistry and not by other solution processing techniques. Both polymers lead to highly conducting materials that require a neutralization step before their coverage by LuPc2. While the device based on polyaniline shows ohmic behavior, the nonlinear I- V characteristics of the…

Conducting Polymers for Ammonia Sensing: Electrodeposition, Hybrid Materials and Heterojunctions

2017

International audience; Polyaniline (PANI) with electrodonating and electrowithdrawing substituents were electrodeposited and studied as sensing materials in resistors and heterojunctions. Whereas the dimethoxyaniline leads to a highly conductive material, the tetrafluoroaniline leads to a poor conducting polymer. However, this latter was used in heterojunctions, associated with a highly conductive material, the lutetium bisphthalocyanine LuPc2. Elsewhere, hybrid materials combining polypyrrole (PPy) with ionic macrocycles as counterions were also electrosynthesized and used as sensing material in resistors, for the detection of ammonia. They exhibit a higher sensitivity compared to PPy pre…

Reconstruction of the paleoenvironmental changes around the Miocene-Pliocene boundary along a W-E transect across the Mediterranean

2006

Abstract In order to reconstruct the environmental changes at the end of the Messinian salinity crisis, a multidisciplinary study has been carried out with a high sampling resolution of the late Messinian–early Zanclean (Zone MPl 1) sediments along a West–East Mediterranean transect. The studied examples comprise sections from southern Spain (Vera/Almanzora), Balearic Basin (ODP Site 975), Tyrrhenian Basin (ODP Site 974), Sicily (Eraclea Minoa), Zakynthos (Kalamaki), Corfu (Aghios Stefanos), Crete (Aghios Vlasis). Previously analyzed sections from the Levantine Basin (Cyprus and ODP Sites 968 and 969) are used for comparison. The sections have been correlated using planktonic foraminiferal …

Nitrogen recovery using a membrane contactor: Modelling nitrogen and pH evolution

2020

[EN] A hollow fibre membrane contactor has been applied for nitrogen recovery from anaerobic digestion supernatant at different operating conditions obtaining nitrogen recovery efficiencies over 99 %. A mathematical model able to represent the time evolution of pH and nitrogen concentration during the recovery process is presented in this paper. The developed model accurately reproduced the results obtained in 26 experiments carried out at different pH values (from 9 to 11), temperatures (from 25 to 35 degrees C), membrane surfaces (from 1.2 to 2.4 m(2)) and feed flow rates (from 0.33 x 10(-5) to 5.83 x 10(-5) m(3)/s) predicting the variations in nitrogen recovery rates measured at the diff…

Diammine{N-[2-(hydroxyimino)propionyl]-N′-[2-(oxidoimino)propionyl]propane-1,3-diaminido-κ4N,N′,N′′,N′′′}iron(III)

2012

In the title compound, [Fe(C9H13N4O4)(NH3)2], the Fe(III) atom, lying on a mirror plane, is coordinated by four N atoms of a triply deprotonated tetra-dentate N-[2-(hy-droxy-imino)-propion-yl]-N'-[2-(oxidoimino)-propion-yl]propane-1,3-diaminide ligand in the equatorial plane and two N atoms of two ammonia mol-ecules at the axial positions in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. A short intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond between the cis-disposed oxime O atoms stabilizes the pseudo-macrocyclic configuration of the ligand. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The ligand has a mirror-plane symmetry. One of the methyl-ene groups of the pro…

Ammonia removal during leach-bed acidification leads to optimized organic acid production from chicken manure

2020

This work demonstrates the suitability of nitrogen removal during anaerobic acidification in batch configuration for a more efficient pre-treatment of chicken manure prior to anaerobic digestion. High loading rates corresponding to a total nitrogen input between 6.3 and 9.5 g L−1 allowed successful suppression of methanogenic archaea. To eliminate nitrogen, NH3-stripping and MAP (magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate) precipitation were compared. In spite of decreased cell quantities detected using qPCR, removal of nitrogen caused an increase in volatile fatty acid (VFA) formation from 13 to 19%. The highest nitrogen removal during acidification (up to 29%) was achieved with three consec…

Photoinduced functionalization of diterpenes: transformation of the C-20 methyl of atractyligenin into a carbomethoxymethyl or carbamoylmethyl group

2003

Abstract Irradiation of the nor-diterpene atractyligenin 1a and of its methyl ester 1b at λ=254 nm in methanol or in methanol in the presence of nitrogen nucleophiles such as ammonia or methylamine gave, besides the decarboxylation product 2, the ester 3a or the amides 3b, 3c, respectively, providing the transformation of the C-20 angular methyl into a carbomethoxymethyl or carbamoylmethyl group. A photochemical pathway involves formation of C-19/C-20 bond in the excited state, followed by a collapse into a ketene intermediate which will capture the nucleophilic reagent.

Boosting Ethanol Productivity of Zymomonas mobilis 8b in Enzymatic Hydrolysate of Dilute Acid and Ammonia Pretreated Corn Stover Through Medium Optim…

2019

The presence of toxic degradation products in lignocellulosic hydrolysate typically reduced fermentation rates and xylose consumption rate, resulting in a decreased ethanol productivity. In the present study, Zymomonas mobilis 8b was investigated for high cell density fermentation with cell recycling to improve the ethanol productivity in lignocellulosic hydrolysate. The fermentation performances of Z. mobilis 8b at various conditions were first studied in yeast extract-tryptone medium. It was found that nutrient level was essential for glucose and xylose co-fermentation by Z. mobilis 8b and high cell density fermentation with cell recycling worked well in yeast extract-tryptone medium for …

Elucidation of Pathways for NO Electroreduction on Pt(111) from First Principles

2015

The mechanism of nitric oxide electroreduction on Pt(111) is investigated using a combination of first principles calculations and electrokinetic rate theories. Barriers for chemical cleavage of N-O bonds on Pt(111) are found to be inaccessibly high at room temperature, implying that explicit electrochemical steps, along with the aqueous environment, play important roles in the experimentally observed formation of ammonia. Use of explicit water models, and associated determination of potential-dependent barriers based on Bulter-Volmer kinetics, demonstrate that ammonia is produced through a series of water-assisted protonation and bond dissociation steps at modest voltages (0.3 V). In addit…
