A Survey of Continuous-Time Computation Theory
1997
Motivated partly by the resurgence of neural computation research, and partly by advances in device technology, there has been a recent increase of interest in analog, continuous-time computation. However, while special-case algorithms and devices are being developed, relatively little work exists on the general theory of continuous- time models of computation. In this paper, we survey the existing models and results in this area, and point to some of the open research questions. Final Draft peerReviewed
LV Measurement Device Placement for Load Flow Analysis in MV Smart Grids
2016
This paper deals with the issue of measurement device placement for load flow analysis in medium-voltage (MV) distribution networks. The study is carried out using an innovative measurement algorithm for load flow analysis developed by the authors. It is based on low-voltage (LV) load power measurements applied on a backward/forward algorithm for the load flow resolution. The final aim is to identify the most suitable number and placement of the LV measurement points in order to limit the uncertainty on the power flow estimation to a target value. The proposed approach is based on the uncertainty evaluation of the estimated power flows; a sensitivity analysis is performed in order to assess…
A simplified approach for load flow analysis in MV smart grids based on LV power measurements
2017
This paper presents a simplified approach for load flow analysis in medium voltage (MV) distribution networks. It is a power summation Backward/Forward (B/F) algorithm, based on measurements of active and reactive powers at low voltage (LV) side of MV/LV distribution substations. The proposed solution allows achieving good accuracy, computational efficiency and fast convergence. In order to verify the algorithm performances, simulation studies are carried out in the case of a real test system, i.e. the distribution grid of Favignana Island (Mediterranean Sea, Italy). The compatibility between simulations results and power measurements at the MV bus bars of the generating substation shows th…
An Innovative Measurement Approach for Load Flow Analysis in MV Smart Grids
2016
This paper proposes a novel measurement procedure for load flow analysis in medium voltage (MV) smart grids. The new approach is based on power measurements at low voltage (LV) side of MV/LV distribution substations. Such measurements are carried out by means of power quality analyzers. If compared with the load flow methods based on measurements at the MV side, the proposed approach has a lower cost and it offers an equally reliable measurement system. The proposed algorithm takes the basic concept of the current summation backward/forward method; some modifications are introduced to use LV load powers measurements. To this aim, the MV/LV power transformer is properly modeled and taken int…
New Measurement Procedure for Load Flow Evaluation in Medium Voltage Smart Grids
2013
The aim of this paper is to present a new approach for the medium voltage (MV) distribution network load flow analysis, mainly based on power measurement at the low voltage (LV) level of MV/LV distribution substations. This allows to use measurement instruments, usually already installed in the secondary substations, thus achieving an equally reliable measurement system with a lower cost compared to measurements at the MV side. The new approach can be applied using a proper communication system to collect the nodal measurements and an iterative algorithm based on ladder iterative technique (LIT) to compute the load flow. The validity of this method is presented and discussed on the basis of…
A PC-based low cost impedance and gain-phase analyzer
2008
Abstract In this paper, we present a practical and inexpensive impedance/gain-phase analyzer (IGPA), which is very useful in the design of electronic circuits. This instrument allows the Bode diagram of any network or electronic circuit with an input and an output to be obtained, even though this implementation was not previously known. It can also obtain the module and phase diagrams of any impedance separately. The device under test (DUT) is connected to a personal computer (PC) via the parallel port by means of an electronic circuit implemented for this purpose. The results are shown on the screen of the PC and can be accessible for use in any further operation. The instrument operates i…
Uncertainty evaluation of a Backward/Forward Load Flow algorithm for a MV smart grid
2015
This paper presents the uncertainty evaluation of an innovative measurement algorithm for load flow analysis in MV distribution networks. The measurement procedure is based on Low Voltage (LV) load power measurements applied on a Backward/Forward (B/F) algorithm for the Load Flow (LF) resolution. Furthermore, in the procedure a three phase voltage measurement at the MV generating substation bus-bars is also considered. The accuracy analysis of the LF algorithm is performed in the case of a real load condition in the distribution grid of Ustica island, Italy. The analysis takes into account the uncertainty of the measurement instruments at the LV side of each secondary substation power trans…
A low-cost embedded IDS to monitor and prevent Man-in-the-Middle attacks on wired LAN environments
2007
A man-in-the-middle (MitM) attack is, in the scope of a LAN, a technique where an attacker is able to redirect all traffic between two hosts of that same LAN for packet sniffing or data manipulation, without the end hosts being aware of it. Usually these attacks exploit security flaws in the implementation of the ARP protocol at hosts. Up to now, detecting such attacks required setting up a machine with special-purpose software for this task. As an additional problem, few intrusion detection systems (IDS) are able to prevent MitM attacks. In this work we present a low-cost embedded IDS which, when plugged into a switch or hub, is able to detect and/or prevent MitM attacks automatically and …
A Freely Available Morphological Analyzer, Disambiguator and Context Sensitive Lemmatizer for German
1998
In this paper we present Morphy, an integrated tool for German morphology, part-of-speech tagging and context-sensitive lemmatization. Its large lexicon of more than 320,000 word forms plus its ability to process German compound nouns guarantee a wide morphological coverage. Syntactic ambiguities can be resolved with a standard statistical part-of-speech tagger. By using the output of the tagger, the lemmatizer can determine the correct root even for ambiguous word forms. The complete package is freely available and can be downloaded from the World Wide Web.
Improvement of Fingerprint Sensor Reading Using FPGA Devices
2008
In order to realize fingerprint recognition system in real time environment, we describe in this paper signal controller to read fingerprint sensor generated in FPGA devices. Basically this signal is generated using state machine. The simulation result for behavioral simulation and signal generation read by logic analyzer are presented in this paper. Initialization and reading time for 76800 pixels are 50.99 mS. It is faster than fingerprint sensor using USB connection, which is more than 250 ms.
