On the Robustness of Deep Features for Audio Event Classification in Adverse Environments

2018

Deep features, responses to complex input patterns learned within deep neural networks, have recently shown great performance in image recognition tasks, motivating their use for audio analysis tasks as well. These features provide multiple levels of abstraction which permit to select a sufficiently generalized layer to identify classes not seen during training. The generalization capability of such features is very useful due to the lack of complete labeled audio datasets. However, as opposed to classical hand-crafted features such as Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), the performance impact of having an acoustically adverse environment has not been evaluated in detail. In this p…

Sensitivity of SHG-FROG for the characterization of ultrahigh-repetition-rate telecommunication laser sources

2004

International audience; We analyze experimentally the sensitivity of second-harmonic generation frequency-resolved optical gating (SHG-FROG) for the complete intensity and phase characterization of both a sinusoidal beat signal and a train of 1.3 ps pulses at a repetition rate of 160 GHz at 1550 nm. Using a commercially-available optical spectrum analyzer in the SHG-FROG set-up, incident pulses with energies of only 125 and 190 fJ, which correspond to the beat signal and the 1.3 ps pulse train, respectively, have been accurately characterized.

Cluster isobars for high-precision mass spectrometry

1991

Doublet mass measurements of the isobars28Si3 and12C7 are performed by use of a Penning trap mass spectrometer and the Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR). The carbon and silicon cluster ions are produced by laser ablation. Results of these preliminary measurements are presented.

Validation of the use of Actigraph GT3X accelerometers to estimate energy expenditure in full time manual wheelchair users with spinal cord injury.

2013

Study design: Cross-sectional validation study. Objectives: The goals of this study were to validate the use of accelerometers by means of multiple linear models (MLMs) to estimate the O2 consumption (VO2) in paraplegic persons and to determine the best placement for accelerometers on the human body. Setting: Non-hospitalized paraplegics’ community. Methods: Twenty participants (age=40.03 years, weight=75.8 kg and height=1.76 m) completed sedentary, propulsion and housework activities for 10 min each. A portable gas analyzer was used to record VO2. Additionally, four accelerometers (placed on the non-dominant chest, non-dominant waist and both wrists) were used to collect second-by-second a…

Chromatographic Air Analyzer Microsystem for the Selective and Sensitive Detection of Explosive-related Compounds

2014

Abstract The detection of explosives and explosive-related compounds is of major importance for the monitoring of explosive- contaminated sites. Current methods need to become cheaper and portable while maintaining a high sensitivity and selectivity level. In that sense, a silicon micro-analytical platform consisting of a three-dimensional micro-preconcentrator based on a hydrophobic zeolite, coupled to a silicon spiral micro-column was built. A chemical gas sensor acted as a miniaturized gas detector. This system allowed selective detection of orthonitrotoluene (ONT), an explosive-related compound at the sub-ppm level in the presence of toluene and moisture.

Multi-site analytical evaluation of a chemiluminescent magnetic microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) for sirolimus on the Abbott ARCHITECT analyzer.

2009

Objective This study evaluated a new chemiluminescent magnetic microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) for sirolimus on the ARCHITECT analyzer. Design and methods Patient and laboratory proficiency samples were tested at three European sites and one site in the United States. Results The CMIA total %CV's were all < 8% and the Limit of Quantification (LOQ) was < 1.52 ng/mL across the four sites. It cross-reacts to sirolimus metabolites F4 and F5 and showed no hematocrit interference over a range of 25% to 55%. Patient specimen correlations to three LC/MS/MS methods gave R ≥ 0.91 at three sites and mean biases of 14%, 25% and 39%. CMIA patient specimen correlations to the Abbott IMx gave R ≥ 0.94 at…

Multispectral colour analysis for quantitative evaluation of pseudoisochromatic color deficiency tests

2010

Multispectral color analysis was used for spectral scanning of Ishihara and Rabkin color deficiency test book images. It was done using tunable liquid-crystal LC filters built in the Nuance II analyzer. Multispectral analysis keeps both, information on spatial content of tests and on spectral content. Images were taken in the range of 420-720nm with a 10nm step. We calculated retina neural activity charts taking into account cone sensitivity functions, and processed charts in order to find the visibility of latent symbols in color deficiency plates using cross-correlation technique. In such way the quantitative measure is found for each of diagnostics plate for three different color deficie…

Conditions of dust sampling in pneumatic conveying through the horizontal pipeline

2007

Abstract The paper presents the results of examinations on the reciprocal relation between the isokinetic coefficient H of sampling, the quantity of measured mass concentration and the measuring usefulness of a dust sample aspired from the stream of solgas conveyed pneumatically in the horizontal pipeline. In gravimetric measurements of two-phase flows, the conditions under which aspiration is carried out, are extremely important. Available theoretical considerations and practical experiments usually concern aspiration in the vertical channels, where the manner of making measurements is universally known and it does not express any reservations. However, it is often necessary to conduct tes…

A noise analyzer for monitoring static electrification current

2005

Abstract This paper presents a static electrification current signal analyzer used for measuring and processing of the variable component of the changes in electrostatic charge that occur on a solid-body/liquid boundary interface. Due to high sensitivity and low uncertainty, the analyzer allows a precise evaluation of the phenomenon generated. The device operates in a spinning-disk system. The tests carried out indicate that it is possible to measure random components which depend, to a large extent, on hydrodynamic conditions and on the properties of the liquid phase. The device can be applied to the testing of transformer oils. It can be also used for measurements of other liquids having …

Experimental assessment of application of gravimetric measurements for pneumatic conveying in horizontal pipelines

2008

Abstract Available theoretical considerations and practical experiments usually concern aspiration in the vertical pipelines, where the procedure of making measurements is universally known and it does not express any reservations. However, it is often necessary to conduct test in the systems of horizontal conveying of solgas, where the conditions of taking a representative sample, even for the sake of the significant effect of the gravitational force, many vary from those suggested for measurements in the systems with vertical flow. The present paper contains the results of tests which determine usability of the gravimetric method in measurements of flow parameters of two-phase gas–solid m…
