Gradual angioplasty and stent implantation to treat complete superior vena cava occlusion after Mustard procedure

1996

A 16-year-old male was admitted with complete occlusion of the superior vena cava pathway 14 years after Mustard procedure for transposition of the great arteries. From a left subclavian vein approach, the atretic vein segment was perforated using a straight guidewire, and was followed by sequential balloon dilation. Implantation of a 30 mm Palmaz-stent through a femoral vein approach resulted in a widely patent channel of the vena cava superior into the systemic venous atrium. © 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Drug-Eluting Stent for Left Main Coronary Artery Disease

2012

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare, in a large all-comers registry, major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with first-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) versus coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA) stenosis. Background Percutaneous coronary intervention with DES implantation in ULMCA has been shown to be a feasible and safe approach at midterm clinical follow-up. Methods All consecutive patients with ULMCA stenosis treated by PCI with DES versus CABG were analyzed in this multinational registry. A propensity score analysis was performed to adjust for baseline dif…

P864Histopathological damages in the epicardial coronary artery after ischemia and reperfusion injury in swine

2019

Abstract Background The microscopic consequences in the myocardial capillaries after myocardial infarction (MI) have been widely addressed, but little attention has been paid to epicardial coronary arteries. Since epicardial circulation is responsible for providing blood flow to the heart, understanding the microscopical changes on the epicardial artery after MI becomes also crucial. Purpose To evaluate the dynamics of the microscopic damages in the coronary arteries post-MI in swine model of reperfused MI. Methods MI was induced in swine by transient 90-min coronary occlusion of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery using angioplasty balloons. One control group and four MI gro…

An overview of randomized controlled trials on endovascular treatment for chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency in multiple sclerosis patients

2020

AbstractAbout ten years ago it was hoped that venous angioplasty for abnormal veins, primarily the internal jugular veins, will be a much awaited treatment for multiple sclerosis. Yet, a majority of randomized clinical trials on endovascular treatment for chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency did not reveal clinical efficacy of these procedures in multiple sclerosis patients. Still, a detailed analysis of these trials suggests that they were poorly designed, underpowered and endovascular techniques used were often far from being optimal. Nonetheless, even considering weak points of these trials, it can be concluded that venous angioplasty should not be used as a routine treatment modal…

0190: Predictive factors of intrahospital mortality in patients with right ventricular myocardial infarction

2016

IntroductionRight ventricular (RV) infarction is a serious and life threatening condition which mainly complicates an inferior wall myocardial infarction (MI). In the literature, data for predictive factors of mortality in this setting remains scarce.Aim to study predictive factors of intrahospital mortality in patients with RV infarction. Methods and resultsData was collected from a monocenter registry including all patients with AMI admitted in our department between January 1995 and March 2013. 1483 patients were enrolled in our registry. RV infarction was diagnosed in 160 (10.7%) patients, always complicating an inferior wall MI. 37 (23.1%) patients presented with right sided heart failu…

Safety and efficacy of endovascular treatment for carotid artery stenoses using proximal protection systems : 30-day follow-up

2017

Introduction. Although surgical endarterectomy remains the treatment of choice for carotid artery stenosis, carotid artery stenting (CAS) with use of proximal protection systems (PPS) plays an important role as alternative treatment modality, especially in high risk patients. This study was aimed at the assessment of safety of CAS with use of the PPS and also at identification of risk factors associated with this procedure. Material and methods. This was a post hoc analysis, with 30-day follow-up. We analysed results of treatment of 94 patients who underwent 97 CAS with PPS, 47 such procedures in asymptomatic, and 50 in symptomatic individuals. Results. There were 0 strokes during 30-day fo…

Potential Involvement of Impaired Venous Outflow from the Brain in Neurodegeneration: Lessons Learned from the Research on Chronic Cerebrospinal Veno…

2019

About 10 years ago, the so-called chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency syndrome was discovered. This clinical entity, which is associated with extracranial venous abnormalities that impair venous outflow from the brain, was initially found exclusively in multiple sclerosis patients. Currently, we know that such venous lesions can also be revealed in other neurological pathologies, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Although direct causative role of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency in these neurological diseases still remains elusive, in this paper, we suggest that perhaps an abnormal venous drainage of the brain affects functioning of the glymphatic system, whi…

Resultados de la estrategia farmacoinvasiva y de la angioplastia primaria en la reperfusión del infarto con elevación del segmento ST. Estudio con re…

2011

Introduction and objectives: Pharmacoinvasive strategy represents an attractive alternative to primary angioplasty. Using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging we compared the left ventricular outcome of the pharmacoinvasive strategy and primary angioplasty for the reperfusion of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Methods: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance was performed 1 week and 6 months after infarction in two consecutive cohorts of patients included in a prospective university hospital ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction registry. During the period 2004-2006, 151 patients were treated with pharmacoinvasive strategy (thrombolysis followed by routine non-immediate angi…

Interventional cardiology: Differences in the morphology of unstable and stable coronary lesions and their impact on the mechanisms of angioplasty. A…

1996

The aim of this study was to compare the morphology of stable and unstable coronary lesions using intravascular ultrasound in patients undergoing coronary balloon angioplasty and to determine whether lesion morphology had any influence on the mechanism of balloon angioplasty. Thirty three (15 stable and 18 unstable) patients undergoing single lesion percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty were studied with intravascular ultrasound before and after intervention. All examinations, recorded on S-VHS video tape, were studied off-line and matched sites from the point of minimum lumen area after the procedure and the corresponding site prior to intervention were compared. The morphology of…

Effects of Ciprostene on Restenosis Rate during Therapeutic Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty

1992

Ciprostene, a chemically stable prostacyclin analog was studied for its effects on restenosis in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing therapeutic percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). In a double-blind, randomized trial 32 patients were randomized to receive either ciprostene or the respective placebo. The infusion started intracoronarily at a rate of 40 ng/kg/min 20 min before introduction of the balloon catheter into the coronary artery. Thereafter infusion was continued intravenously for 36 hours at a rate of 120 ng/kg/min and a tapering off period until 48 hours. The quantitative analyses of the degree of coronary artery stenoses on the angiographic films be…
